S/O Can we talk about how bad Lin-Manuel Miranda's music is?

I literally cannot comprehend hating Moana. I feel like it is perhaps the best Disney movie ever made. But to each their own!

Surprised he is still so widely worshipped.

No me too stuff. In the Heights got criticized for only having light skinned latino actors. He apologized.

I was thinking about him acting kind of lascivious in a video he took in his bed. I didn't know much more but apparently there's a trend of Gen Z hating him:

As suspected, we skew old here on DCUM! LMM is everything Gen Z hates about us!

+1

What is wrong with this PP? Did you confuse Moana with Mulan?

Moana is hands down the BEST Disney animated feature of all time.

But my response to that feeling has never been to say that that music is inherently bad, that it is not musical or rhythmic etc. I just accept that it isn't my jam. And that its fine!

You are saying that like, one of the most revered and prolific songwriters of the last decade is inherently bad at music. I think that is an INCREDIBLY narcissistic take to be honest. I definitely think he has a stylistic fingerprint that might not be for everyone, but to act like because you personally don't like his music that his music must be objectively BAD is just...very narcissistic. And I am not some LMM devotee or anything.

Jesus, just stop. I'm so sick of everyone throwing the term narcissistic around for everything. Find a more apt description and use it. People don't throw other psychiatric disorders around willy nilly like that.

Mind you, I hate all musicals. Going to see Rent was one of the lowlights of my life.

If going to see Rent was a "lowlight" in your life, you have had a truly charmed life. I hope you don't say stuff like this to people in real life. You need to start a gratitude journal.

I didn't call them a narcissist. I said this was a narcissistic perspective. And it is! "I don't like it therefore it is bad" is a self centered perspective that is simplistic and self absorbed. I'm not saying OP is a bad person or anything. Take a chill pill (don't read into that that I am accusing you of a psychiatric disorder though!)

NP but calm down and read again. Narcissistic and "Narcissist (Dx)" are not interchangeable terms. PP didn't call PPP a narcissist, they said it is a narcissistic take. And they're right - saying "I know he's a a creative genius and everyone loves his music, but I don't like it so it's *bad* and has no rhythm or melody" is at the very least placing far too great a weight on your own personal preferences. Everyone likes it but me, so it's bad is a *narcissistic take*, even though it's not appropriate to diagnose it (which no one did) as the rantings of a Clinically Diagnosed Narcissist (TM).

I just don’t understand why he added Lin to his name. His music is fine. I can’t get Bruno out of my head.

DP. FFS, do you take everything so literally? Lighten up.

Wow I could have written OP's post. Musically, there is nothing there. I got tired of getting yelled at about 45 min into Hamilton. I get it, he is not going to waste his... shot. Agree on the subsequent comment on the Lopez's. The talent level is just night and day.

He didn't name himself, nor did he add anything to his name. His parents named him, and used a name from a poem.

I stand corrected! I must’ve missed read an article years ago and I thought he added Lin to his name in honor of the poem/poet.
