Do you think doctors are rich people?

Any speciality with ‘interventional’ in front of it pays pretty well, as does surgical specialities. The rest not so much. Pediatrics is the worst in terms of pay.

We have a surgeon relative who makes bank because he owns his clinic in a low COL area. And his parents paid for his medical school 100%. He also makes unique investments like local businesses and real estate in addition to stock market holdings.

Taken as a whole, physicians still have the highest salaries of any profession:

Median income for attorneys: $123K
Median income for software engineers: $108K
Median income for physicians: $208K

And of course, some specialists will earn far more than that.

You have to take into account opportunity cost. Residency is low pay at 50-60k for around 7 years after 4 years of medical school which is 60-100k a year depending on where. It’s better to be at engineer and make 100k throughout your 20s. Also, Physician Assistant is great - only 2 years no residency and make anywhere between 100-200 k

Your entire post is faulty. I don't even know where to start. More faults than words in your post OP

A career in medicine as a specialist was once the most predictable route to a financially lucrative career. This however has changed during the past twenty years due to
A combination of the following: 1. Med school
Expense is outrageous - $400k price tag for your MD degree; 2). Physician comp is controlled by insurance companies, wall st, and hospitals. The days of setting up
A solo practice after residency are long gone. 3). Significantly more opportunities to now make mega $$ in other careers such as engineering or finance which was not possible 20
Years back.

So…docs enjoy a good living and eventually will
Become wealthy in their 50s and more particularly so if the are in a lucrative sub speciality such as dermatology, surgery, etc.

Lol that you think the size of someone's house is an accurate measure of their wealth.

I don’t think anything that’s why I am asking

You literally said their house is small so they can’t be rich. That’s an odd and probably incorrect conclusion.

And that’s why I am here asking if my conclusions are incorrect.

No, you asked why so many people consider doctors rich.

It depends on the speciality, just like any other industry.

My ex-H, an ortho surgeon specialist, makes well over $500,000 and did when he was in his early 40s. Doctors have to be more creative nowadays to make big money, but the opportunity is there if they want it.

So the upper endpoint is always going to be people who do procedures, such as surgeries, especially if you get "more creative" in doing them. That makes the lower endpoint is much lower than the average as well. That's going to be your average general practice doctor, or pediatrician, or public health doctor.

I guess they aren't creative enough, PP? Or not willing to be, maybe?
