Will OPM close 1/4?

Is there a time by when they have to announce? Not sure why I’m angsting over this since there’s no way I’m going to be able to drive to a main road and unclear whether those are even plowed yet. Been awfully quiet today.

Nope, it varies wildly. They announced at 10PM yesterday.

I'm surprised they announced it at night at all. Used to be no word until 5am or so. They could be waiting to see how the road crews do overnight.

I can verify this - during the pandemic my husband had to report for shift work at 4:30am and they wouldn't make the call before he had to leave.

Oh boy I know where your husband works I remember those days!

My DH works onsite and for his sake I hope they close again. Our neighborhood street is usually plowed relatively quickly as it’s a school bus route but it hasn’t yet, which makes me think a lot of other roads haven’t yet either. But I know if the govt is open he will try his hardest to get out to the main road. Even a delay would be better as he always leaves by 6am and it is going to be icy!

Have there ever been any lawuits for forcing employees to report when roads were unsafe to use? Seems like making people choose between a car wreck and employment is a disaster waiting to happen.

3 hour delay…bastards.

Many people are on the road before 4 am so hopefully they don’t wait until 5 am to announce. With roads not plowed and a hard freeze tonight (and messaging to stay off roads) it would be stupid to open.

It was such a long time too...hard to know how we survived that!

Well, dang. Should be interesting trying to drive through 12” of snow on unplowed roads with trees down. Sigh

I can't imagine there weren't lawsuits after snowmaggedon. I left work early and almost got trapped. Anyone that left when the Federal government allowed was in a bad spot.

“As wet surfaces become slick overnight, the state of roadways will become much more important to the D.C. area.

Every jurisdiction has asked drivers to stay off roads as transportation officials work to address oncoming icey conditions”

Well, except for government employees that is…ugh .
