Many places offer this. SameDay Testing is an easy one.

Yes - except all of these facilities are slammed right now. Our area is a major hotspot w/no end in sight. It's going to be hard for people who have to get a PCR test w/in a specific window of time to do so for kids to return to school w/out schools working to have testing on-site.

Curative turnaround is next day

It took the author of this five days and quite a bit of hassle to get a test and results. Most parents are not going to be able to do this.

And this is a school that has been doing weekly pooled testing and over-quarantining students. They love to shut down and go virtual. The Curative appts were hard to come by leasing up to the holidays and even with an appt, you had to stand in line for an hour. Not easy to do with kids. I am all for testing before the kids return to school but the schools need to help facilitate this. Especially a school like Cap City that has subjected us to over-testing and over-quarantining- I say this as the parent of two fully vaccinated kids who have been constantly required to show negative PCR tests because they might be a close contact.

We are a former Capital City family and I am very saddened to hear how badly they continue to fail their community with regard to COVID protocols. It is truly tragic and borders on criminal due to the fact that they are not meeting their mandate to educate to even a minimum standard.

I honestly wish ITDS was requiring PCR tests. they host Curative on Mondays which would allow PCR results in time. We'll do PCR but know so many will do rapid which just doesn't provide the same amount of assurance for us. But, super glad that they've changed their quarantine protocols!!

DCI is opening as planned on Monday because they already had testing scheduled for Monday and will test all students upon arrival. That is their normal testing schedule and if they didn't open on Monday, they would have to wait until Monday, the 10th for their next scheduled testing. My DD is bummed that she has to go back on Monday when everyone else is off, but this is a result of DCI already having a rigorous testing program in place.

Truth is requiring a negative PCR test for regularly scheduled return on Tuesday.

They should/may pivot to rapid.

Yes, agreed. And they are doing half day wednesday and asynchronous thursday. Not sure how this counts as meeting the minimum standard.

Cap City parents should write the charter board and OSSE. They unilaterally decide this counts as education when the mayor has said it does not. CMI and DCB parents too.

+1

These children are being underserved. It is not okay.

"All teachers and staff will be on-site January 3rd and 4th to have access to free testing and to work on instructional resources so that pivots are possible and seamless should case rates continue to rise"

"Should cases continue to rise"
=
"should the fire spread from the kitchen to the living room"

Students will sign up for a time slot to take a rapid test offered for free at the school on Jan 3rd or if that's not possible, take one the morning of Jan 4th and be permitted to attend school in person w/a negative test.

The exception is for unvaccinated students who traveled outside of the DMV and returned to the area Dec 30th or later, these students must receive a PCR test no sooner than 3 days after their return and can only enter school with a negative PCR result.

As a parent, I'm pretty pleased w/this plan.

Its ridiculous to impose rules on those who travel, considering the biggest source of covid is right here in DC. We went to the midwest for xmas and it was delightfully not overrun with covid (for the moment anyhow.)

Dumb AF also. Where do you the spike in DC rates came from, Mars? People traveled for Thanksgiving to places like Ohio and Michigan with their low 50s vaccination rates and came back sick. FFS.

New England native here. Things have been bad in bright blue states too, so maybe give the virtue signaling around Midwest states a rest.

I'm at CMI and so frustrated that they picked a wholesale 2 week closure right off the bat without considering test-to-stay. Seems like they are the only charter doing this. I have no idea why they want to be outlier, it is so hard for parents.
