One of my kids just told me that she has a friend participating in a neighborhood Christmas cookie baking competition. I didn’t know that was a thing you could just do, but that’s genius! I don’t have to bake if I just convince contestants to drop off cookies at my house for me to judge.

What kind are you talking about?

Bad ones have probably been made in advance, frozen and defrosted. Don't do this. Fresh only. They won't last more than a few days before they start going stale.

I've also had lots of bad tasting decorated sugar cookies. There are lots of bad sugar cookie recipes on the internet. Royal Icing doesn't taste good and if you pair that with a cookie recipe that focuses on structure not taste, yuck. They don't have to be terrible but many are.

The one cookie I hate is frosted cut-outs. They are so hard to get right, they are a huge mess, and they’re never cooked well because they don’t get rolled evenly.

I just don't eat those unless I made them. I see too many kids helping and licking their fingers as they go.
