Christmas cookie assortment - what categories of cookies do you make?

Anonymous
I'll give you my general categories, with some examples:

Something fruity (jam filled, rugelach etc)
Something nutty (mexican wedding cookies)
Something citrus (lemon sables)
Something spiced (gingerbread)
Something boozy (like no-bake truffles)
Something kids can decorate (sugar cookies or gingerbread)
Something caramelly

We do just two:

Cut-out sugar cookies decorated with royal icing
White chocolate - cranberry cookies

You give them away to friends and neighbors. That’s the reason for making so many.

One of my kids just told me that she has a friend participating in a neighborhood Christmas cookie baking competition. I didn’t know that was a thing you could just do, but that’s genius! I don’t have to bake if I just convince contestants to drop off cookies at my house for me to judge.

+1. We gift them to friends, family, neighbors, volunteer orgs we work with

Um. Eat them.

Really? If you are making 5+ batches of cookies at a 2-3+ dozen each, that is way more cookies than any one family should/can eat.

NP - We make up plates of cookies to give to family and all of our neighbors on our street. I probably make around 8-10 different types of cookies/candy every Christmas (6 that I make every year and usually try at least 2 new ones).

I follow similar logic and make sure one of the types is a bar cookie. Something for everyone.

Peanut butter balls dipped in dark chocolate.

You're welcome!

Buckeyes are soooo good! My family actually takes the easy route and make them as bars, so much quicker than rolling into balls!

I think the issue is I just don't like cookies that aren't soft and chewy. That eliminates a huge number of categories like shortbread, biscotti, mexican wedding cakes, ginger snaps, most thumbprint cookies, etc.
