APS - no results yet from beginning of year testing

Do you guys know that the documents won't be in the messages/email part of parentvue, but at the bottom in the "Documents"? That's where I found my middle school kid's scores (HBW).

How common is it for a middle schooler to have 12th grader lexile scores? Is that kind of normal for this area the same way that kids are "ahead" in PALS and 9th graders take AP classes etc? (Not a blip, has always tested high in this area.) Thank you!

Not sure, but same for my 7th grader.

I assume it’s fairly common.

I just checked and my 6th grader is there, so I guess we’re in good company.

Not uncommon around here, but it also only tells you so much. Being able to read the words on a page doesn’t necessarily mean your child will truly “get” 12th grade level literature. They could tell you so and so went there and did that, but will they understand the themes, symbolism, etc.? Maybe not. Keep it all in perspective.

What’s the range for 12th grade?

Not sure how you all have 12 grade scores, the middle school report for WMS only showed 6/7 and 8th percentiles.

I looked up my kid’s Lexile number. I didn’t see a percentile.

DD is in 7th and got a 1731 Lexile score. Looks like this isn’t uncommon. Is there any way we can get an advanced track for language arts?

Get involved with GSAC - the Gifted Services Advisory Committee. It came up at the SB work session as recently as (I think) last night that there is no intensified option in MS other than math. GSAC has been pushing for years to have intensified offerings in all the core subjects that any student can voluntarily take, regardless of whether they've been identified as GT. It's a huge failing in APS that they don't appropriately serve the highest performing middle school students.

Interesting. I thought it topped off at 1700? Maybe it's more like 2000?

Our child's teacher explained that the MI is grade-normed, so a 700 at the EOY 6th grade is not the same as a 700 in the fall in 7th grade.
