It is school, just not the CRT stuff or vaccine or mask mandates. They’re angry that schools stayed closed for as long as they did and that the Democrats seemed dismissive of parents’ concerns about the resulting disruption and learning loss. I certainly understand their concerns but they do come off a bit self centered… like all that matters is them and their family, not the healthcare workers or teachers or the medically vulnerable. I think Democrats’ biggest mistake wasn’t necessarily closing schools, but for not showing more concern about the fallout now. Terry couldn’t even manage to fake it. He just didn’t connect with suburban women as much as he needed to.

Yes, we all know this is why Youngkin won suburban moms who previously voted Democratic. Why is this such big news to this Pamela lady? Everybody else knew this.

McAuliffe was just a boring, uninspiring candidate. If we'd had someone young, fresh, more progressive, they would have won.

You still don't seem to get it. There is now a backlash to your "progressive" movement. It's not selling.

+1 I don't want someone progressive anything. I want someone under 60, sane, fiscally smart and not morally repugnant. Youngkin fit that metric but I would have voted for a Democrat had that choice been available.

I think in FCPS at least, the (Democratic) school board had lots of problems - telling families that schools would open up, only to drop the idea once elections passed. Then going off and doing it all over again. Throwing their tech support staff under the bus over problems of their own creation. Being one of the best-funded school systems in the country, but not being able to implement a credible online education when we first went online. There were plenty of examples of school systems which did a much better job of moving online even with less funding. I think the confluence of a school board which was loudly Democrat but also loudly inept when it counted was something that people noticed.

Any Democrat who fits that basic metric will come with a side of woke. That's not going to work for me.

Democratic Party just doesn’t get it. Suburban parents do not want racial, sexual politics as the focus of their kids. Nor are they interested in white privilege. Nor are parents of girls interested in transgender men competing against their daughters in sports of lobbying for them to join them in the bathroom.

Nope. Most suburban voters still went for McAuliffe.

They DON’T want more GOP lies.

The rural areas went for Youngkin. Shocker - they don’t want equality.

They are the reason democracy will die. Virginia will not be safe for women and schools will suck.

Good luck VA you are going to need it. You just voted in a horrific person.

The rich only get richer and he will on your dime.

Welcome to higher taxes and more dying.

Stop it. Nobody is buying your act.

I’ve said it elsewhere on here. The normies are over it. They don’t want boys in their daughter’s bathrooms or sports teams. They don’t want images of oral sex in their school libraries. They don’t want to be called menstruators. They don’t want to be told they’re responsible for everything wrong in the world when they’re just doing their jobs and taking care of their kids. They’re done. Democrats need to listen instead of dismissing them as racists for not voting the way democrats want them to.

It wasn't about 'equality' no one even knows what that means. Aside from that, if 30% of suburban voters are going for Republicans and all of rural voters - Democrats are screwed.

Not enough, and many voted for him without enthusiasm. This election as a shot across the bow for the Democrats. They should heed the warning.

What does “equality” mean to you in this context?

Voted for Youngkin because I believe in capitalism. He was ceo if Carlyle. I was very close to voting for mcsuliffe, but didn’t because I don’t want schools closed again. I’m also pro life.

Trump is the reason we have the vaccine in such a short time.

He also said get the vaccine and still says get the vaccine.

Uh no. The first effective vaccine was Pfizer, which did not take part in operation warp speed.

The whole world wanted a vaccine, it wasn’t rocket science to invest in it.

If he has used that war act to make N95 rather than ventilators, I might give him some credit. But all GOP focus on is treatments (horse meds, monoclonal, ventilators) and are unwilling to do anything to control the spread of virus because “freedom”.

There goes a liberal, making up his own facts again.

FFS, Pfizer announced it wasn’t part of Operation Warp Speed, and this “fact” is simply a CNN opinion piece.

What happened is by July, Pfizer saw the other vaccine makers were making good progress and scooping up gobs of money, and they blinked because if their competitors locked in contracts for the entire country they could have been locked out of the domestic market. And with the transport limitations that were expected at that time (remember all the fridges?), it couldn’t just sell overseas.

The vaccines were going to be made, and honestly mRNA are fairly easy to make at scale, Warp Speed wasn’t really the deciding factor. It does mean that crazies can still hold out hope for Novavax, because they needed the money.

Hilarious. You snottily call out CNN's Fact Checker as "an opinion piece," while proceeding to vomit up your own ridiculous opinion, with zero proof. Never change, Democrat.

Middle age suburban mom here. I also voted for Youngkin. I’m tired of equity, equality, race, sex, etc being focused on in schools instead of any academics. If they could do it all then fine. But the current school system does not care at all about academic standards. I don’t care nor am I concerned over CRT. Like this post, what are they even talking about when they throw around words like equality.

I also don’t care if Youngkin’s kids go to private school.
