We’re talking about people who abuse their kids or parents, who steal from retirees, who are mass murderers, and so on.

Religious folks call it Satan; secular/atheists call it sociopathy ir psychopathy. But they all find common ground in judging mass murders to be bad.

I don't think there is any proof that mass murderers or child abusers are Satanists. In fact, prisons are full of religious people.

Whooosh… the sound of the point going over your head. In a number of theologies, not just Christianity, Satan is the guy who makes people do evil things.

That's how movies portray Satan and how some people talk or preach, "the Devil made me do it," but that is not actually how the theology goes. At it's base, it is a theological choice between good and evil, and choosing Satan represents choosing evil. This is unrelated to those coopting the name and symbol for tax shelter purposes.

Oh, so no free will?

Man has free will, but Satan tries to influence man to lose his soul. That’s a very basic concept in Christianity. If you don’t know or understand that you must be someone who needs to educate yourself more. Asking questions here won’t do much.

I think people do a lot more good in the name of religion than bad.

+1. Satan is the great temptor, even tempting Jesus in the wilderness. The lesson is that we (and Jesus) can choose to resist temptation.

+1. The top pp clearly deals in black-and-white stereotypes, deliberate misunderstanding, and exaggerations. It’s a child’s view.

Whereas "doing good in the name of Satan" is simply contradictory and impossible by definition.

Some Satanists are atheists. Some Satanists are religious. It depends.

No one disagrees with that statement, but it doesn't support your first point that there is no difference between religion, where sometimes people go astray and do evil things but mostly it is a group of people trying to find a way in the world to be and do good, and actual satanism, where the whole purpose is to always do evil.

This. If you compare the body counts of Christianity and Satanism, it’s hard to argue Christianity isn’t the evil one

It isn't, actually. Satanists define the primary virtues as personal freedom, materialism, kindness for the virtuous, intelligence, knowledge, and "doing unto others as they do to you." It's pretty American, all told.
