Just letting you know what the kids are saying. Stick your head in the sand if you’d like |
At an active work place shooting (went on for hours, made the news), they ushered all the employees into a GLASS conference room in the middle of the building. Co-worker and I disobeyed and left down the back stair well and made it to the street. He was from Israel and couldn't believe the absurdity of that command. Sometimes you need to trust your own instincts and not 'run back up the stairwell' or stay under a desk where there is a clear run to safety. Now on planes, people are taught to fight hijackers not try to negotiate. After Sandy Hook, they started advocating getting out if there was a window of opportunity. Things change. |
DoD no longer advocates shelter in place. Their policy has changed for its facilities. |
Yep, here's a time kids (and adults) can absolutely not follow directions - if they can run away, they should. The kids in imminent danger who survived Sandy Hook were the few who ran right past the shooter. |
It was actually "safari day", not "America day." Although, I could see a stupid kid dressing up as a hunter for Safari Day. DD thought it was a stupid theme, not really much she could do to dress up for it. The things that immediately come to mind are a hunter or an animal. |
Yup. Safari Day. |
Safari Day in high school? For what purpose? How bizarre. |

We had a video basically saying to charge the attacker. |
Maybe administrators don't know that a "safari" is an expedition to hunt animals. Weird school theme folks! |
Arlington, TX school just got shot up. Events unfolding. |
Hoping my nephew in Arlington, Tx school with active shooter followed this advice. |
+1 The rest of the week was the typical spirit week -- pajama day, blast from the past day, dynamic duos (I guess dress as twins with your friend?), Generals Pride day (wear your W-L shirts). But then they throw in Safari??? |
The kids make up these "spirit" days not the school. Usually the student government association kids. |

Run, then hide (if not possible) and if confronted fight. |
