At an active work place shooting (went on for hours, made the news), they ushered all the employees into a GLASS conference room in the middle of the building.  Co-worker and I disobeyed and left down the back stair well and made it to the street.  He was from Israel and couldn't believe the absurdity of that command.

Sometimes you need to trust your own instincts and not 'run back up the stairwell' or stay under a desk where there is a clear run to safety.

Yep, here's a time kids (and adults) can absolutely not follow directions - if they can run away, they should. The kids in imminent danger who survived Sandy Hook were the few who ran right past the shooter.   [/quote]
