McConnell is refusing to pay back debt that GOP raked during Trump presidency

If the US defaults, it will be 100% on Joe Manchin. Republicans couldn’t do it if Manchin wasn’t wrapping up all the power with a big bow on top and gifting it to them.

I heard on the radio today that the senate parliamentarian ruled that the democrats can up the debt limit in a reconciliation bill that has nothing to do with the big reconciliation bill. so what's the problem?

Isn’t the relevant question why the GOP keeps filibustering the bill to raise the limit?

He does not have much credibility any more

+1. Once upon a time, Manchin tried to paint himself as the great negotiator, the one that could bring both sides together to strike a bipartisan deal. He utterly failed, and now is so dug in that he’d rather crater the US economy than compromise. You can’t believe anything that comes out of his mouth anymore.

Well he DID strike a bipartisan deal. It’s just that the socialists are refusing to vote for it.

And I’m really not sure what any of you expect from Manchin. You’re so entitled, it’s sickening. He represents West Virginia, which Trump carried by 40 points. Twice. You should feel lucky that there’s someone in that position willing to talk to the democrats at all.

Serious question- why do we even have a debt ceiling? It's been raised multiple times now. Clearly nobody takes it seriously as far as spending is concerned, so maybe they should just get rid of it altogether?

At this point, I would be perfectly happy to see Manchin come out as the Republican he is. Give the Republicans majority control in the Senate and let them figure out how to clean up their own mess. This happens over and over again throughout American history, the GOP and its predecessors making a total mess of this country and then looking to Democrats (and their predecessors) to clean it up. They’re like toddlers.

Wear Virginians have proven themselves over and over again to collectively be dumber than a box of rocks. So it’s not surprising they keep electing this fool who isn’t actually doing anything to help them.

Nope. If we default the blame lies with everyone but especially the fifty filibusterers

As usual, only the ones who are retiring are willing to stick their necks out and do the right thing.

Democrats can use the reconciliation to raise the limit.

Easy Peasy. What’s the big deal ?

Republicans could stop filibustering and let a vote happen. Easy peasy, what’s the big deal?

It’s not easy - adding something in reconciliation is incredibly complicated and subject to strict rules by the Senate Parliamentarian. But you knew that, right? Because you’re really smart?

I’m going to start a Highlights-type magazine for Republicans. Instead of Goofus and Gallant, we’ll have vocabulary cartons in which Republicans can learn the actual meaning of words like “socialists.”

What do we expect from Manchin? Oh, maybe to pass a bill from the party to which he belongs and that is supported by 77% of his constituents. If he represents West Virginia, ostensibly he should be voting for this and not being a jackash.

Susan Collins is being the hypocrite that she always is.

It seems like Schumer is going to try to get the BBB and debt limit done in the next week.

Filibuster

Reconciliation?

Too complicated to incorporate it in.

But not complicated for the social spending bill?

That bill isn’t going to pass this week or next, which is what’s needed.

And the Dems didn’t have time?

No.

Sorry but they did. They just didn’t want to.

The Parliamentarian has already ruled that Democrats CAN use reconciliation to raise the debt limit. But you know that, right?
