| McConnell wants the American people to think that he’s being fiscally prudent by keeping the Democrats from overspending. Most Americans don’t understand that raising the debt limit is to pay for debts already accumulated by the last administration. |
| Dem should say publicly- We will have a vote on this one time on Friday. If it fails or passes it is on the republicans. We need 10 votes from them. |
|
Can someone please explain why the democrats need republicans to do this? I honestly do not understand the democrats position.
I heard on the radio today that the senate parliamentarian ruled that the democrats can up the debt limit in a reconciliation bill that has nothing to do with the big reconciliation bill. so what's the problem? |
You are correct. They need to find a way to blame Republicans because their party is in such disarray. |
Filibuster |
^^^^isn't familiar with how the senate works. sad. |
Are you saying that the intentions of the Republican party are pure? Didn’t the Republicans have to actively filibuster the vote in order for it not to pass as well? Isn’t it the open strategy of the Republican party to filibuster the debt limit increase thus forcing the dems to go it alone and get blame for “increasing our debt”? |
Isn’t the relevant question why the GOP keeps filibustering the bill to raise the limit? |
| This talk and removing all media reference to the cost of the infrastructure and reconciliation bills will be the new Democrat talking points. |
| I think McConnell should just go through with his threat and let the US default. It would be worth it to see the reaction of all the republicans billionaire donors when their fortunes implode. |
Reconciliation? |
Dems could have lifted the debt limit through a reconciliation a few weeks ago. Looks to me neither side wants to make a concession. What’s Dem’s plan though? Would the Dem leadership combine the debt limit and social spending in one recon bill to place the maximum pressure on Sinema and Manchin? |
Too complicated to incorporate it in. |
