I heard on the radio today that the senate parliamentarian ruled that the democrats can up the debt limit in a reconciliation bill that has nothing to do with the big reconciliation bill. so what's the problem?

Filibuster

Reconciliation?

Too complicated to incorporate it in.

But not complicated for the social spending bill?

That bill isn’t going to pass this week or next, which is what’s needed.

Isn’t the relevant question why the GOP keeps filibustering the bill to raise the limit?

He does not have much credibility any more

The filibuster has everything to do with this. If it weren’t for the filibuster, the dems would have already raised the debt ceiling. The filibuster is the only reason it has not yet been raised.

Democrats CAN do it themselves. They do not WANT to. Scary.

I'll take the word of an 11-year Senator over an anonymous poster on DCUM.

+1. Once upon a time, Manchin tried to paint himself as the great negotiator, the one that could bring both sides together to strike a bipartisan deal. He utterly failed, and now is so dug in that he’d rather crater the US economy than compromise. You can’t believe anything that comes out of his mouth anymore.

Republicans CAN do it themselves too. Like they have every other time the debt ceiling needed to be raised when the President was a Republican. They do not WANT to. Scary.

+2 He also said he could put a bill together that could get Republican votes on common sense gun control, and also on voting rights. And he failed. Both times.

You're confusing Manchin with Biden.
