I matched w/ someone while he was in town but couldn’t meet before he left. We stayed in touch and talked on the phone daily for weeks. He had to come back for a conference and stayed with me. I didn’t get murdered, he wasn’t married, etc. We wanted different things out of the relationship and we are best friends now. Everyone thought he was trying to scam me at first.,

Are you an heir to his estate in Barbados now too?

What are you trying to imply?

Yeah, this would set off all of my "ew you so desperate" flags IMMEDIATELY. No person of value flies across the country for a first date with someone they haven't met.

Read your sentence and tell me which parts don't make sense.

Did anything result besides sex?

It could have resulted in something. For example, I had been texting and phoning with her for 6 months before I visited (she invited me, I was planning to stay in a hotel but she wanted me with her). I liked her but she had one major problem--she was crazy.

LOL! Exhibit A of a woman that would go for something like a fly-in date that stays at her place. You are lucky as a man you don't really to have to worry so much about your safety and can just see where it goes.

Go, just be safe. In spite of forums, not everyone is a psycho killer. At least this way, his IP is tracked and his id is verified if he sends you his flight itinerary. That being said the highest percentage of pervs are from California in my personal experience. I have taken many trips due to my job, so do be careful and public, and don't be disappointed if California men seem more "porn"-influenced/okay with rape/disrespectful. Portland or Seattle may be better.

Find that thread about looking up divorces in Virginia. There's some great advice on how to do a thorough background check

People miss that statistically this guy is VERY unlikely to have nefarious intentions.

Conversely, you are statistically unlikely to hit it off, and have it turn into a 3000 mile apart LTR, too.

So, my concern would just be that by the time he let his desperation show in his offer to fly 3000 miles (I mean- I’m fantastic but suffer no illusions that there aren’t equally wonderful women closer than 3000 mules away- so if he proposed this I would lose respect for him and be averse to his pathetic display of desperation.

This, I highly highly doubt he is flying in just to meet OP.

Unless he works for an airline. Then hopping on a flight across country is NBD.

You've talked to someone ONE time and they want to fly across the country to meet you?

If this isn't a fake post, this guy has probably done the same setup with a number of women, and OP is the one who bit the hook. He'll probably wine and dine her (oops, there is something wrong with his credit card), sweep her off her feet over a short period, and then suck every last penny out of her accounts. Beware.

Flying isn't that hard, or expensive. I think I paid $100-200 RT for recent flights to Florida and Texas.

Flying cross country is much more expensive than flying to Florida or Texas. How do you not know that?
