We are looking at 1.5 million dollar properties in mclean and noticed a few don't have a separate double oven and have a single oven under the range.
Would it be a deal breaker? I do notice that one of the houses had a huge amount counter top space and obviously didn't want any to be broken up or taken up by a double oven. How would a double range oven work out? I notice these have 1 full size oven and another half size. http://www.homedepot.com/p/GE-6-7-cu-ft-Double-Oven-Gas-Range-with-Self-Cleaning-Convection-Oven-in-Stainless-Steel-CGS990SETSS/202976828?N=c3nl#.UVnAcpPYeH8 http://www.abt.com/product/60467/Electrolux-EW30DS75KS.html |
| Many people were able to reach happiness and bliss without having a double oven in their home. |
| Anyone who would consider a single appliance a "deal breaker" on a $1.5 million home is an idiot. |
I think maybe your sarcasm meter might be on the fritz? |
| $1.5 million is basically a starter home in McLeen. If you want a double-over, buils one in. Or for that price, you're probably getting a teardown anyway. |
| Other than the oven issue you really like the house? If you have $1.5 million to spend, shouldn't be too hard to add a double oven. |
| Never heard of this being a deal breaker. If you need a double oven and can afford a $1.5+ million house you can redo the kitchen. How often do you plan to use the double oven? Would a convection microwave do the trick if it's only once or twice a year? |

Gosh I was just asking about how important a double oven is and if those 2 range options could be a substitute. I am not looking into doing much renovating and am looking at this one that's in mclean school district

I have a double oven range (GE Cafe version). The lower oven is a half oven and is good for things like roasting veggies and potatoes.
It's a matter of personal preference. Do you bake a lot? Do you roast large chickens a lot? |
I don't bake that much but in general I would like to make sure the home has a good resale value if we decide to move in a few years. |
It's only important if your entertaining style requires 2 ovens on a regular basis. We entertain a lot and get by with one oven and a warming drawer. The oven is a wolf that has 3 shelves and convection so can cook a reasonable amount at the same time. I think you lose a lot of space in those oven and a half things. The only time it's a challenge is thanksgiving since a turkey can take up the whole oven. Do you have a double oven now? |
The GE Cafe oven has a full size on the lower oven and a half size on top. I don't have a double oven but when I was viewing homes I saw a lot of them do. |
| If you don't have a double oven, and you aren't doing a lot of cooking/baking, I wouldn't worry about it. As a buyer of a $1.5 million house I'd rather have a high end range than a GE cafe, that's for sure. |
I have had GE Cafe and Wold / Viking and I didn't really notice a difference. The only thing I noticed was the consumer reports warnings about high repair bills for viking / wolf. |
| I would think the only time it is an issue is for a large Thanksgiving. Do you host often OP? |
