we opted in to Western but our child will be doing course selection for his base school. He won’t be doing course selection for Western. I think the reason for that is that western doesn’t have a staff yet, so there is no one to meet with the kids and plan courses, and because there is the possibility that some kids will not end up at Western. Having the kids select courses at their base school makes sure that they are included in that schools process.

Doesn't this cause some turmoil in planning for the base schools, though? Like if a significant number of kids choose Western instead of their base, won't it result in potential destaffing?

Yes, especially for the Japanese program at South Lakes. As I understand it, a lot of the JI kids from Fox Mill are opting in at Western. The count I have says over half.

How do you have a count?

At the open house they said they are going to take the electives chosen by the opt ins for their base HS and those are going to be the ones they offer. Plus a couple Stem classes.

They don't have a count, they are making things up because they want Fox Mill zoned to Western. It's silly.

Pp is saying she has a count of kids in the JI program who opted in. She's not saying she has a count of the kids going or even the total number of kids from FM who opted in.

It is absolutely possible that she knows of 20 kids or so who have opted in. It also doesn't mean anything.

I believe it is tonight. I can't make it, which is annoying.

From Melanie: The four Western High School potential boundary maps that were previously posted online are not active options anymore. The maps are no longer on the website, and language is up stating the maps are not being considered. I confirmed this with the Superintendent during the School Board work session on January 13.
Secondly, tomorrow is the last day for parents of rising 9th and 10th grade students to opt in to attend Western High School. Families were supposed to have received the link to an application form. If they have not received the link, they should contact their counselors or principals for assistance.
Regarding transportation, there are significant questions that remain unanswered, which I am working on. Lastly, I support the name Skyview High School.

I think this means option E was real. Sorry Lees Corner!

Melanie Meren is the Abominable Hack of Hunter Mill.

I’m completely sick of her.

Lees Corner should not move at all.

They have kids with behavioral issues that need to be placed at Chantilly.

We Oak Hill parents have kids who are more Formal and Classy.

We want Crossfield and Fox Mill to move in as they are close to them.

Lees Corner is no less than a stain to Oak Hills name, and we deserve better than them interacting with our kids.

So, after all this "comprehensive boundary study" to "fix" boundaries based on objective standards, they are going to create a boundary for a new high school based on politics instead of the standards stated in the comp. boundary study. In other words, they are creating new problems.

You can't believe anything Meren says. She'll just retract it tomorrow when the real facts come out.

Lees Corner parents really want to move Oak Hill to Western so they can stay at Chantilly. WOW! Why not the other way around, we stay, you move.

That she likes the name Skyview is all you need to know.
