Wotton vs Walter Johnson vs Chirchill

Anonymous
Hi all!
I'm currently looking for new house, so need some opinion
Which district would you prefer and why?
Any input on middle schools in that area are also welcome
I'm kinda know what to expect from Wootton (DS1 is sophomore there), but not sure about Johnson and Chirchill

Churchill is more of a pressure cooker caused by hyper parents who expect that every kid is going to be admitted to an Ivy League school. In turn the teachers feel the pressure and the workload is excessive. Not so much at Walter Johnson which is more laid back with reasonable parents.

I'm not the parent of a high schooler, so I'm not disputing the characterization of the schools, but I really just don't get it when I see peoe respond that Churchill and Whitman are pressure cookers - isn't the curriculum the same at all of the MoCo high schools?

Darn, I thought this was about the MSHL Hockey Playoffs.

Churchill is tops in this group.

(And you can't leave out Whitman in the playoffs too)

Actually you can, I think they got knocked out by WJ this week.

Yes, but this is more about the expectations for these kids for college- both from parents and themselves. They tend to take a lot of AP classes, be very involved in extra currics, spend time on SAT prep, etc. In my view that's all a good thing. My kid is challenged but not stressed, and its certainly better than some of the private schools which are a real grind.

Can you elaborate, please?
What makes Chirchill the best of 3?

I believe the PP meant in hockey.

I did mean Churchill was the better hockey school.

Back on point, though. My younger kids are heading to WJ so I am curious too.

Often with these questions, I wonder if it is possible for one person to know all these various schools.

This leads me to wonder if these schools are more alike than they are different.

For example, I have a neighbor who attended WJ. This kid is laid back, but I also knew that the neighbor had a tremendously crowded schedule. This kid was taking mostly AP classes (I want to say 5, but I can't remember), was doing a musical instrument, and was playing sports. The schedule sounded insane. I would hate to think the other schools had more pressure than what this kid faced. Somehow the kid managed, though.

Well, one difference is that WJ is more socioeconomically and racially diverse than the other two. I think there are fewer kids who feel entitled, and this affects the overall atmosphere at the school.

oops, sorry
DC1 is not into sports at all, DC2&3 are so far away from HS

Well, yes, it's kinda impossible, but people talk
I got some feedback from friends re WJ & W, bur WC is still a bit of the mystery... Will my kids have all possible opportunities to take whatever classes they interested in (I had a bit of a fights over DC freshman schedule in W), blend in into community well, find their niche?
Recently I had to talk to some Whitman/Churchill parents and got "that" look when I told than my DC goes to Wotton.
So, I'm a bit afraid - we're not rich, maybe we should avoid Churchill area altogether

Sorry, I'm venting, it's stressful time - nothing on the market right now, and we need to find a new place rather quickly

How do you know that kids feel entitled at one school but not the other? How do you know what kids feel? Are you a mind reader? This is complete b.s.

I'm finding it hard to imagine why you would get a "look" cause your child goes to Wooten. This is one of the top schools in county.

OP- your repeated spelling errors cause me to wonder if you are an adult or if this is a farce, but I'll bite.

I agree w/ PP. Wootton is one of the best in the country, right along side of WJ and Churchill. Churchill tends to be less diverse and their science and music programs aren't nearly as strong as Wootton. WJ is the most racially and economically diverse out of the 3.

What do you mean by racially diverse? Do you mean there are a variety of races? There are more African American kids? There are more Asian kids? There are fewer Caucasian kids? There are more or less Hindus or Jews? What exactly do you mean?
