I agree w/ PP. Wootton is one of the best in the country, right along side of WJ and Churchill. Churchill tends to be less diverse and their science and music programs aren't nearly as strong as Wootton. WJ is the most racially and economically diverse out of the 3.

What do you mean by racially diverse? Do you mean there are a variety of races? There are more African American kids? There are more Asian kids? There are fewer Caucasian kids? There are more or less Hindus or Jews? What exactly do you mean?

The data is all available on the MCPS Schools at a Glance. Take a look.

I have a dyslexia, I can't spell, is that a crime?

Thank you for your response

Back on point, though. My younger kids are heading to WJ so I am curious too.

Often with these questions, I wonder if it is possible for one person to know all these various schools.

This leads me to wonder if these schools are more alike than they are different.

For example, I have a neighbor who attended WJ. This kid is laid back, but I also knew that the neighbor had a tremendously crowded schedule. This kid was taking mostly AP classes (I want to say 5, but I can't remember), was doing a musical instrument, and was playing sports. The schedule sounded insane. I would hate to think the other schools had more pressure than what this kid faced. Somehow the kid managed, though.

oops, sorry
DC1 is not into sports at all, DC2&3 are so far away from HS

Well, yes, it's kinda impossible, but people talk
I got some feedback from friends re WJ & W, bur WC is still a bit of the mystery... Will my kids have all possible opportunities to take whatever classes they interested in (I had a bit of a fights over DC freshman schedule in W), blend in into community well, find their niche?
Recently I had to talk to some Whitman/Churchill parents and got "that" look when I told than my DC goes to Wotton.
So, I'm a bit afraid - we're not rich, maybe we should avoid Churchill area altogether

Sorry, I'm venting, it's stressful time - nothing on the market right now, and we need to find a new place rather quickly

We are just mad that you won the State soccer championship. Really I can't imagine that you would get a "look". I don't see a real difference between those schools and the neighborhoods. There are wealthier parts and less wealthy parts of all 3 districts.

Oh please, PP! Churchill parent here. I don't know why those parents gave you a look but let me tell you there are asshole, entitled and just plain weird parents everywhere. I do feel like Churchill is a pressure cooker especially when I look at the GPA averages for graduating classes and see that more than 50% of the class have GPA's above 3.5. It makes me feel badly for my DC who is just a B student. I'm sure Whitman, WJ and Wootton are right up there with Churchill. I have heard conflicting reports about Wootton. Some say it is more relaxed but others say it is very stressful due to the abundance of high achieving asian students. I would suggest that your DC get involved quickly in which ever school he/she ends up in. You do not want your teen out of school with nothing to do at 2:10pm every day. Good luck with your decision.

Although longer commutes to many workplaces I am guessing, unless one works along the 270 corridor.

QO is another 2 or 3 miles out from Wootton. You can live off of 28 and close to 3 different 270/370 exits or hike in the back way. It's not that far out at all.

Lakelands & Ridgeview are both great middle schools.

My two children graduated from Wootton. No complaints. In all schools the bar is really high and the competition to get into top colleges is intense. My younger son had a 4.67 weighted GPA, one B in all of high school, 7 APs and did not get into an IVY or a few other schools.

BTW-The years my sons played hockey we won two back to back state championships!!

Do students from Wootton get into Ivys at all? If so, how many a year? My understanding is only a handful if that. Churchill or Whitman may have more. Not much at Walter Johnson either.

Last year Whitman had 20-25. The numbers, of course, vary from year to year. Some years there may be only 1 going to Harvard, other years there are 5. Last year were big years for Cornell and Brown. And some kids are accepted at Ivies and choose other schools.

Sorry, WJ feeders inside the beltway or close-by.
Another 2-3 miles up from Wooton up 270 is way far out. Really. It is.
