You are completely misinformed. They do pay a lot for fields and unlike smaller clubs, the amount of kids that want to try out is much higher and not something anyone can absorb cost wise because you don't like it. If you don't think it's warranted, go with the free ones. |
| yeah, I don't think the club's non-profit status allows them to access any fields for free. I do think some practices are at public schools, sometimes with, sometimes without permits. |
I just showed you 2 examples that charge and they absolutely don't get the fields for free. Are you just spouting obvious nonsense for fun? |
| I need you to continue to pay for tryouts to pay for my scholarship to cross the river and play in MoCo, when i drive by 4 other clubs in NoVA to get to practice 3-4 times a week |
No fan of BSC, but this is correct re the payments for fields. If you look at the thread on here re the compensation for Alexandria’s director, there is a link to the club’s tax filing that shows they pay over $500,000k per year for fields; referee and tournament fees are expensive as well, along with coaching salaries. I’m sure the same is true for Bethesda, though I can’t be bothered to pull up their filing. I have no problem with a not-for-profit charging tryout fees. There are so many better things to complain about where BSC is concerned. |
| How will NM handle one Bethesda team and three GFR teams at the same time? |
He's only head coach for one team at GFR. |
By making his Bethesda team practice in VA. It's already happening. |
| Yes this is true. |
| So 1 coach, coaching 2 rival clubs is commonplace and allowed? |
They’re not rivals and have a long history of partnership |
|
BSC is not likely to change. What they are doing seems to work for them. So, hypothetically, what could cause "Bethesda Soccer On Way Down?"
1. A neighboring club gets ECNL, ECRL, or GA for girls 2. ECNL demands BSC does ECNL for girls and boys 3. Virginia changes to fall for high school soccer so players can cross the river easier 4. Financial or personnel scandal --Any other thoughts? |
Monopolies are good for some and horrible for others. It will take a new club getting ECNL for girls (or ECNL to lose relevance) for any meaningful change. |
| If we had more options we would leave BSC. DS cut from MLS next 1 team to 2, doesn’t want to leave MLS pathway so staying out. He was offered a spot at Achilles and Armour but the practice times would kill me, I have three other kids in sports and science competitions and need to stay in MoCo. We will reassess end of this year. He’s older so staying on the pathway to regain HG next year is key for him. It’s very hard. |
He is using Bethesda. If you know, you know. |
