It will be a split club at best. BSC is already way down on the boys side. No major pros have been developed in years. Very poor leadership on that side and that will continue. The boys are willingly moving to Achilles, Armour, NVA and SYC with no worries about commutes. On the girls side, once DE hits the USYNT radar after playing MLS Next a year up next year, people will see that girls have options pre-puberty in MoCo if you are really trying to maximize a young ladies talent. It won’t affect the elite MoCo mafia but it will impact 2-3 of the top girls in each age group that BSC used to traditionally get and are USYNT caliber. The marketplace has changed. BSC will still be the home to Ivy/Power 4 commits so it won’t go away. It will just be the MoCo mafia niche instead of THE DMV place for elite soccer it once. It is not going away, but you are fooling yourself if you don’t already think BSC is down already. |
Yep. And the last comment before the GFR thread was locked was about Bethesda practicing on GFR fields. And here BSC families thought they should stay with the club to escape going over the bridge! |
| What is the issue with practicing in va? |
| Sooooooo BSC is NOT on its way down ? Cool. |
| I will spill a lot of dirt soon. It will corroborate a lot of what you have already read. The club is a cesspool. |
IG page shows more USYNT ID camps,Tennessee, NC State, Elon, Howard, Florida State, GW, VCU, AU etc. Great schools but any of the W schools in MoCo can do better that ( except USYNT and National ID camps). Let’s not sell fluff to families. |
You’re seriously curious why BSC families might have an issue with “Bethesda Soccer Club” practicing in VA??? |
The American Legion Bridge |
| I can confirm, from talking with parents on several of the top girls teams 2014-2016, they opted not to return because of KL's coaching style. |
| He’s actually more than a competent coach, despite all the negativity around him; he just has no business coaching teen and pre-teen girl’s psyches. With kids he’s an abuser, coaching adults or college age he’d be fine. Move on KL! |
Heard the same. When 9 out of 13/14 kids leave - that is not a good sign, and reflects poorly on the coach and the club! |
| It's too bad, the club has a monopoly and really doesn't care much about losing players or even whole teams. I am sure KL knows soccer but agree that, fair or not, the perception from many families is that the mental and emotional costs aren't worth it to have him as their coach. |
Where did they go and who is taking those slots? |
| The biggest problem isn’t even that KL is so verbally abusive. It’s that the club couldn’t care less There is zero point of the board. When there are issues, there is no one to contact. It’s a black hole. KL is one issue but there are a TON of issues. And nowhere to go with them. |
+1 Exactly this. BSC is a not-for-profit that in theory exists to serve the local community. But there are no open meetings and no meaningful ways to get parent concerns addressed. The bylaws have been restructured so that the leadership gets to select board members who go along with whatever they want, so there is no accountability. |
