Are you the only one in that group who wants to move to the new school? |
If you know this to be true then create a petition or a joint letter. Posting bullet points on DCUM isn’t going to get to Dr. Reid. |

You all are nuts cooking up some fake conspiracy about that website. Why assume malice when good old FCPS incompetence is the most plausible explanation? Who is going to the trouble to make a fake website with an interface and identical commenting tool to the regular boundary review website? FCPS said they were going to make a website with a commenting tool for Western. The simplest explanation is that they started making one with an additional option but published it before it was ready. I have made comments supportive of Western in real life and haven't been iced out of anything. Maybe people just don't like the PP who said that happened to them. |
No, they're trying for tj so missing friends is to be expected And if they're the type of kid trying for tj with a type a personality you can understand why not having an established school puts them at a disadvantage in the college arms race, So no they won't be "fine" |
That's a good point. It would not be quick and easy to replicate that kind of site and interface. |
It's basically impossible when the PTO is meeting with Dr. Reid and saying they are speaking on behalf of the entire school. |
I'm confused. If your kid is trying for TJ why do you even care? |
My kid is applying for TJ and I have no clue what you are saying. Why would the possibility that he attends Western or Oakton or TJ impact his college chances? All that matters is where he goes to HS. Each school will have a different type of college competition. Do you want him to go to Western so if he doesn't get into TJ he has an easier time with college admissions? Realistically speaking, Oakton or Western would probably have a better chance of getting into a a better college then at TJ. Honestly, I am pretty confused here. |
| They could have avoided so much drama by just doing the obvious right thing and making the school house a number of magnet programs that would draw predominantly from the other western high schools (resolving capacity issues without needing more boundary reworks) and which could actually take advantage of the unique non-traditional facilities (including not requiring as much non-swimming sports-related infrastructure to be added). |
That would not have been the obvious right thing unless they really emphasized that the school’s design did not lend itself to a traditional high school. And, had they done that, they would have been heavily criticized for disrupting the existing renovation schedule and spending a lot of money on a school that wasn’t a traditional high school primarily serving the closest communities. |

Stop with the magnet school. The area needed a regular HS not a magnet school. Planning a magnet school there would have led to far more controversy and noise. Just look at the first comments when Reid announced wanting an Aviation Academy.
The only reason that people are still complaining is that they have not set the boundaries for the school, which should have been done months ago. |
+1. I think their initial messaging was misleading because they really did suggest they’d gotten a turn-key HS for $150 million. They were constantly saying they’d saved taxpayers over $280 million. That was blatantly false, and it created unrealistic expectations, but they’ll get to where they need to be in 3-5 years after spending another $60 million or so. |
| Even my kids can not get into the magnetic school, I do not think it is a bad idea. |
