Option H is permanent and the old Wootton HS campus will be closed for good?

Crown was a gift so had to be built. IT only makes sense to use it and change the usage of Wootton until the time comes that the enrollment justifies another high school.

No, it did not have to be built. I love how everyone thinks they know facts when they don’t. Go look up the deed. It says it can also be used as a public park. If a school truly isn’t needed, why waste millions build it. It could’ve been a great park for community use.

Exactly. This is a stupid mistake that MCPS traps itself in. MCPS could have returned this gift back to Gaithersburg city without any cost.

No, the City of Gaithersburg wanted a new high school. Just like they made MCPS pay for an artificial turf field at their new elementary school and then took over the field for their own use. The City of Gaithersburg wants bling.

Wonderful. Give it to Gaithersburg. Leave Rockville and Potomac alone.

Bingo. But that might leave Crown under enrolled and MCPS would be embarrassed. Also, MCPS wants an instant academic reputation for Crown to justify spending $400M on a new school and to satisfy the developers who poured billions into developing Crown, so it just transplants kids from a top performing school 3+ miles away. “Mission Accomplished” moment and Taylor looks good after being spanked by the Supreme Court last year.

where do you come up with this stuff?

dp.. *at the time* there was a need for the two schools, but with declining enrollment and huge budget cuts, *now* it's not necessary.

MCPS has been accused of not pivoting fast enough (makes sense as it is a large school district), but now, they are trying to, and they are still being criticized for it.

Either way, MCPS is damned if they do, and damned if they don't. So, they should just choose the option that makes the most financial sense, and that is *now* H.

1. This could have all been avoided if they had half a brain cell to use more accurate data. Why use pre covid data?
2. H is by no means the most financial sense. H makes Wootton a holding school, which is less accessible than Crown. Estimates show that to repair/make Wootton Parkway to accommodate that many bussed would be 70 million. Not to mention the cost of bussing everyone to Wootton, which is farther away for Damascus and Magruder and every school that needs a holding school for renovations—that’s not my claim, btw that’s literally what analysis published by Mcps shows. Then you got to bus everyone from Wootton out.
3. You also have to renovate Wootton for it to even be a holding school, which means either way—even under H—Wootton has to be renovated. The people who say Mcps doesn’t have money to fix the Wootton and crown simply don’t get it. Under H, money literally will be sent to fix Wootton. This a non unique cost.

Let’s call a spade a spade.
H is not about money.
The option that saves the most amount of money is E or F.
H is politically more attractive.
The county gets to open a brand new school and transplant some of the best students in there and say wow look at us, our new school is immediately top ranked.

Because why else would they pick H over the cheaper E or F? Please explain.

If it was a gift, why did it have to be built? Gift can be returned for better use. It should have been used as a holding school instead of continuing to burden Wootton with a poor decision.

Do you understand what Wootton residents are being asked to sacrifice? First, their school was closed and students were relocated with a boundary change. Then, within the next decade, the school is overcrowded and the community is split again and forced to move once more due to another boundary change. Why should the same group of residents endure repeated disruption just to cover up MCPS’s mistake?

I don't follow what you're saying what school was closed in the past? Are you putting yourself into the future and recounting this year in the past tense? Just confused.

H is almost universally hated. Sure no one option is going to get 100% support or 100% hate, but H—by far—has the most amount of opposition and least amount of support. Nearly everyone at Wootton hates it. Damascus and Magruder hate it.

It’s not even the cheapest option. See above thread.
So tell me, besides “mission accomplished” transplanting some of the top academic students in the county into a school they don’t want to be in, what’s the upside to H?

This makes no sense. Gaithersburg stands to lose the most under H because it would be filled with Rockville and Potomac kids. Not to mention, under H, Crown is in region 4 and all the other Rockville and Potomac high schools like Churchill and RM. All other Gaithersburg high schools lose complete access…

If Gaithersburg is trying to get bling, they would be staunchly against H.

This is only an issue because Wootton families are saying it’s unsafe. Take responsibility for your actions.

1. Not all Wootton families are saying this. Most aren’t.
2. Also even if it was unsafe, who is responsible for the building’s condition? Parents or Mcps? Stop the gaslighting. You probably blame victims of violence. If only you didn’t piss off your abuser, you wouldn’t have been abused
3. Assuming it is unsafe, you do realize H would use Wootton as a holding schools for other kids right…
4. So why is Wootton unsafe such that all Wootton kids have to leave and go to Crown yet safe enough for Damascus and Magruder
5. Wait before you even say it—well we would renovate Wootton before it used for other kids—so this means the renovation money does exist AND H isn’t cheaper. Not to mention again…crown is literally more accessible for any high school that needs a holding school.

You should about as inept as MCPS lawyers. Maybe you should apply for a legal position with MCPS. They’ll need more lawyers anyways for the absolute onslaught of lawsuits coming their way if they are dumb enough to pick H.

Wootton families have taken responsibility by asking for remediation not renovation.

When is MCPS going to take responsibility for building a new building that wasn’t needed? Even Elrich is saying the MCPS is acting ridiculous by wanting to expand existing facilities. He’s telling MCPS no more and live within your means. Instead, MCPS seems hell bent on pulling a Thelma & Louise.

My general feeling about H was that it's trying to solve two things at once.

When the Superintendent proposed using Crown as a Holding School, Wootton parents were some of the most outspoken in support. I saw a petition circulated saying how dangerous Wootton was in an attempt to get Crown placed as a Holding School and get Wootton some much needed fixes faster.

Crown parents were on the opposite side; they wanted the high school they were promised and paid for in extra taxes, instead of having to be bussed away from the school in walking distance and kids from other schools bussed in.

Option H is an attempt to satisfy both groups. Wootton gets a safe school building, local Crown students get a walkable school in their neighborhood.

I want to point out an alarming comment I’ve seen on here a few times now. These anti-H walker parents are so hellbent on not having their precious kids take a bus and are so irrationally afraid that adding kids from Crown and Gaithersburg will somehow make every elite college suddenly reject their kids that they are going to sick the Trump administration on their own kids’ schools if option H is selected.

They are directly threatening this multiple times now - that they’ll wine to their connections in the admin that MCPS is woke and using DEI to force their kids to make Crown a great school by “stealing” their students. Knowing how dangerous the Trump admin has been to the communities it has targeted (MN), think about how harmful this would be for our Wootton kids - and wasteful.

Our kids’ ability to receive a peaceful education is not some joke. I hope these match setters really think long and hard about whether setting Trump attackers loose to put our kids in the midst of a firestorm is worth it.

The only people happy with H are literally the people living in the walkable distance of Crown. And even those people would prefer A-D. Besides them, every other person hates H. Wootton hates H. Gaithersburg hats H. Damascus, Magruder and 48 other schools in need of renovations hate H.

For all you anti-W trolls, you better hope your school is not on the list of 50. Because under H…your going to be bussed to Wootton

How about whoever voluntarily want to go to Crown go to crown and leave rest majority of us at Wootton?

Let’s have a creative solution.
