On what basis? They don’t have a leg to stand on. Their daughter made some bad decisions.

If we still have a Constitution, we are all entitled to certain presumptions including innocent until proven guilty. He needs to be released. Where's US LE now?

We've been talking about this for 50 pages. Why isn't the US demanding the release of an American citizen, not accused of a crime, being held in contravention of DR & US law (DR law requires release or charge after just 48 hours).

I wish the family had some peace and a body was recovered. This is insane i wonder how far a body can be carried by the tide. I wonder if they made searched beyond that area and went further down the ocean.

I don't really see any evidence that doesn't mesh with a common sense understanding of what happened here.

Who are these people who are so convinced --without evidence-- that he killed her?

The US needs to demand his release. If DR charges him, trump knows how return him there, in shackles probably.

Such a terrible turn of events. My heart goes out to her family, Ribe, her friends. They all made some stupid decisions, but what a heavy price to pay. The parents will grieve this for the rest of their lives, relive the last time they spoke to her, the last time they saw her etc. I hope they find the strength to live through this.
Huge lesson for all young adults and their parents.

I just don’t get it. A body should have washed up to shore.

I feel bad for this young man. He was drunk and stupid and so was she (no judgement, I cringe at the many poor, alcohol infused decisions I made in college) but it could’ve just as easily been him who drowned. I’m sure he already feels guilty enough. They need to let him go.

Lying DR prosecutors. I don’t get their end game. The parents gave them a huge opportunity to close the case, at lease against this “witness”.

For $??

Even her parents did not want this!

They are not the prosecutor.

I’m sure her parents would rather believe he tried to save her than any more unsavory options. His story may be true, we may never know.

The prosecutor must have reasons. Keeping him does not boost tourism.

Is March 28 the end of U.S. colleges Spring break?

Why are young people still doing these drunk spring breaks in other countries? How many times does this have to happen?

May be against the resort, for lack of back up power, no security on the beach and bartenders not cutting supply after people had more than what their body weight could handle.

Many were asking but doesn't seem like it was answered. It could be "their culture" thing. Maybe they were or within their community.

Does Indian embassy or authorities there in DR or India have any say since it was presumed young woman and family are Indian citizens?
