Can we lock it now?

Gatehouse employs getting nervous? The SB finally coming to its senses?

No. It can be summed up in this way: leave it alone.

Be curious to hear from any Lewis parents on here.

Lewis parent here, and I was at the meeting at Annandale. I would prefer not to have my children zoned out of Lewis, thank you very much.

Most of the Lewis parents went to the Mount Vernon meeting. I think you'll find that there are many, many parents who are very happy with the school and do not want to be rezoned.

Do you wish to see any changes at Lewis? AP - IB? Foreign Languages? AAP at Key? Other? Because even if they don't change the boundaries significantly this might be the best time to press the School Board for changes.

1600 is a decent sized school. Even at a very large school, all kid cannot get into all programs. Sure, you have more choices, but if the choice is full, you don't get in.
You are never going to make all schools the same. If that is the goal of FCPS, why do they offer IB at some schools and AP at others?

Do you think the kid who takes algebra in 7th (pretty normal in FCPS) will have the same opportunities as a senior when they get to Lewis that they would at Marshall?

They would if Lewis dumped IB and added AP.

Marshall has IB

Then, why wouldn't they have the same opportunity? Does Lewis not offer the high level math? If so, get rid of IB.

What are the IB participation and certificate rates at the various IB high schools?

Does FCPS publish that information anywhere?

FCPS publishes the AP participation on the school profiles, but information for IB schools is nonexistent. It just shows zeros for AP, and no mention of IB.

Just say TLR and ask for a summary because that is only a summary of your mistaken thoughts..

Losing nuance in this process makes us all stupider and harms kids.

Do better FCPS

It's on the profile. Look at the top of the chart. There is a tab for IB. AP pops up automatically, but there is a tab for IB. The color is kind of faded on the tab, but it is there.

FCPS lists the total number of juniors and seniors with a demographic breakdown, students participating, 1 or more exam taken, etc. It does not break down standard level v higher level or diploma candidates or diplomas awarded.

The latter is on the VDOE website under State Board Dta & Funding>statistics & reports> program participation>advanced. You can open spreadsheets for school years and see the senior diploma candidates and diplomas awarded per school.

IB is more expensive than AP per course per student.

The fact that Lewis and Mount Vernon have had as few IB recipients as they have for so many years, and FCPS has done nothing about that while wasting time and money on a boundary review tells you a lot about just how incompetent FCPS leadership and the School Board have been. They don't care about the real problems but, boy, will they spend a lot of effort on things to cover them up.

And a third: This entire thread is speculative.

Friday, December 13. Another week gone, and we still don’t know who is on the Boundary Review Advisory Committee - parents and hand-selected school board shills.

The superintendent’s silence is on brand for this entire sham process.

No. It can be summed up in this way: leave it alone.

Or else what? The SB doesn’t need out permission. They needed and got enough votes to get their positions. I’m not a fan of theirs but this petty sniping is unproductive. Agree the thread needs to be shut down.
