APS - School Shifts in the Fall?

I'm pro return to school but also support things like masks and air filters and opening windows when we can, but I also think staying home forever is damaging our children ...

I don't think it will ever be safe enough for the SR people, and it's clear some of the APE people are ready to throw masks out the window and be done with it forever.

As for the school board race, Miranda has never said she wants to be rid of masks, while Mary has said she can see us doing shift schedules to be safe in the fall, so on that side of the debate, I lean more to where Miranda is. Keep the mitigations in place we can do and open vs. waiting for some mythical safety stuff to take place that will never happen and that we can't afford.

If I was either candidate, I would not want to be judged by the worst members of both groups.

Interestingly, though, all over SR right now is one of leaders actively discussing a desire to screenshot people ...

Is that in the SR Facebook group? VITAL or something?

Yes, it's the SR FB group.

Wait. What? Why tho? They don't learn, do they?

I'm the person who said it above, and looking again, it's really one person who shared Tweets and also noted she "should have screen shot" some other stuff.

Although that person is one of the admins so ...

Which leader? And why? What are they out to accomplish?

+1. I lurke in both. I want safety measures, but kids back in school. I lean towards Miranda.

I'm most critical of APS administration--I don't think they care if students are learning and aren't interested in effective safety measures, as opposed to safety theater. They are fine with the bare minimum across the board.

DP. There are only four, so take your pick.

What are SR saying they "should have screen shot"? Of what -- APE twitter? That's public so no need to screen shot. Is this SR admin insinuating they are in APE Facebook group as a mole? Or has someone acting as a mole on their behalf?

It wouldn't surprise me if the person who likes to screenshot created the Twitter account. j/s.

Except MK is not part of SR, while MT is on the steering committee of APE. SR is only supporting MK because she’s not MT. In fact, given where some of the SR live and the McKinley hubbub of yore, it’s a situation where the enemy of my enemy is my friend. It’s all stupid and should have no bearing on the SB race.

What I can say is that from my years of involvement in APS on various committees and as a volunteer, MK has been around doing the same, for years. MT just showed up, and I don’t feel like she’s done the work to be ready to do the job. She also hasn’t built relationships or good will with anyone outside of APE. She’s seized on a wedge issue, one that’s not even within the purview of the SB decide, in order to win an election.

The account will never be made public again, but they are certainly still posting. If the person who created it actually recognized their behavior was inappropriate, they would have deleted the account entirely. Instead they only made it private, which means they intend to keep going with encouraging doxxing and harassment, they’re just going to do it more in secret.

APE is no better. Doxxing and bullying teachers? Gross.

You misunderstood.

Questions I received about the newsletter content suggest that some readers may have misunderstood one part of my original message. I was not advocating for a two-shift school schedule in August. To be absolutely clear, I do not support a two-shift schedule. My point in raising it in the newsletter was simply to note that if APS is operating under CDC social distancing guidelines in August, classroom space will be at a premium. The narrow range of options that exist include what I originally described as Scenario A and Scenario B. If Scenario A is what we desire (see the "Classroom Capacity" section below) then APS must actively plan for it and include it in the budget that the School Board will approve next month.

Obviously, it was him, the husband of SR lady. If only he could have done it, then he has to be the person who made the Twitter account.

Yesterday, before the account was made private. I tried searching on Twitter for it. It never came up in the numerous searches I tried. You only found it if you knew it was there.

I didn't search for the account yesterday, but, his explanation provided today seemed totally implausible--he just happened to be cruising around the Twitterverse and stumbled on to the Apeshit account? No. No way. I mean, my first grader might try for that excuse, but, a grown adult? Come on.

If he follows a common person who “liked” the ape_s tweets then Twitter may have shared that. I see tweets that my friends “like” all of the time.

There was some other aggressive guy on AEM who keeps posting the angry ape meme. Could be him.

What’s with all of the angry aggressive dads on there? Some real DBs.

the other angry aggressive guy posting the angry ape meme is not a dad- but rather a yorktown teacher...... keeping it classy.... And clearly by writing this I am demonstrating how I hate all teachers.....

Oh wow. That’s disturbing. And that guy repeatedly/aggressively posting campaign comments is nutso.

What’s with all of the angry bro dads/teachers in Arlington?

White men forced to face the reality that they cannot force the pandemic to bend to their will.

Yup. Plus they want their kids out of their homes/in some better virtual model so they don’t have to fight with their wives about who is responsible for helping them while they both work FT jobs. It’s a lot harder to skate by on the traditionally unequal household burden falling to the WOHM when you’re both WAHPs and have kids who are homeschooling. The lawsuit? Brought by a dad. The recall? A dad. The FOIAs, all of them, dads. The angry and aggressive FB rants on both sides? Mostly Dads. All white. Bunch of man babies.

Instead of b1tching on AEM these man babies should be helping out with childcare.

I didn’t mean it in the sense that they necessarily have tweeted again since making it private, only that the plan is to still use it to actively tweet material to followers. There is literally no reason for that account to still exist unless they plan to continue using it. Which is a dicey proposition because Virginia law is fairly accommodating of subpoenas for IP addresses and related data for specific social media accounts if someone who was targeted by the account were to file a lawsuit against the John/Jane Doe owner of it.
