She's laying out what needs to be done to return to 5 full days if 3ft of distancing is still required. She lays out the multiple steps to make the determination if we have the capacity to make that possible in all buildings, and if not, what are the alternatives one of which is two shifts to allow all kids five days per week. She's laying out all the other pieces of the puzzle including transportation, extended day and lunch (and she advocates for funding temporary outdoor lunch facilities or identifying other indoor options).

There is a lot of thought and detail going into this plan, do not default to OP's one liner.

Not OP but I am one of the PPs and I read everything. I don't think her handmade cutouts are accurate-- why would you need 3 ft between a desk and a wall? Shouldn't desks be pushed against walls and corners where possible to increase the amount of desks you can fit in a room if you're maintaining 3ft between people?

Perhaps to allow for walking around/to/from the desk without bumping into each other in the same aisle?

I can’t think of any classroom in my building that actually has walls you can push things against- wall of cabinets, radiator thing, whiteboard, cubbies/ hooks.

Other districts are removing excess furniture.

The new variant that is hitting school age kids is one unknown, and whether the CDC will change their guidance from 3 feet to none is another unknown. I think Mary Kadera is trying to push APS to start actively planning now because there are so many moving pieces. At least she is putting thought into the issue!

But are you impressed at the quality of her thinking? I was pretty shocked at what a crappy job she did with this. If you are putting out your ideas to show your thought leadership, take the time to really understand the issue. I still can't get past the fact that the circles were the wrong size. I can't see voting for her.

As opposed to Miranda whose campaign centers around complaining? I actually have been impressed with the depth of Mary’s thoughts and ideas on a variety of issues.

Yes, I think I would prefer someone that is willing to be vocal about holding APS admin accountable. APS admin should be doing the detailed planning. School Board member should be directing the policy - e.g., OPEN 5 FULL DAYS IN FALL and get as many kids as you can now in w/in 3 ft distancing guidelines for as many days as possible. There is a learning loss emergency and we should act like it.

If we get to full vaccination then I imagine the issue is moot. But Mary is a problem solver and I think that's what APS needs.

Her thoughts that she put together are illogical and create more problems than they solve. I don’t want someone who will solve problems that way. There are so many miscalculation in her proposal. I was leaning toward her because she was a teacher and I currently teach in APS, but I can’t support anyone who would put out these ideas.

It seems Mary went to the same school of logistical planning as Bridget Loft.

My kids are in APS and his desk is up against the wall right now

After I read Mary’s post on this, I gave money to Miranda. And I will vote in the caucus even though I know I will not vote all Democrat in the election. I have no issues signing their ridiculous pledge when the issue at hand is if my kids get full time in person school.

Everyone wants and expects the kids to be back 5 days a week this fall. APS does. The current SB does. Mary and Miranda both do. The kids will be back full time, regardless of who is elected. Miranda is a one issue candidate (and this will resolved before either of them takes office anyway). There are so many other issues at stake where Mary is clearly more thoughtful, knowledgable, and experienced than Miranda.

She’s a Barbara K wannabe. And Barbara is a political hack who wants higher office than the SB.

Sounds like the line of think as spring 2020. This will all be resolved by fall and there will be plenty of time make up learning loss. We must end all new instruction and no instruction for k-2 because this will be a non-issue come fall. Mary is better than the other school board members but I want a dissenting voice on the school board. That’s why I’m voting for Miranda.

Experienced? Is that why you didn’t pitch a fit when we got Cristina. Because she was so experienced? We need someone who isn’t worried about the bogus inter workings of APS and is going to challenge the incompetent staff.

I appreciate that Mary is actually thinking through how to return to school.

As opposed to Miranda who has no actual plan other than demands for full time. Notice Miranda doesn't explain how to actually accomplish that.
