No, thank you. We don't have to do that and we won't. We will utilize the distance learning which the district will provide as long as we have unvaccinated students in a pandemic.

Guess your precious in-person kids will just have to share resources. Sorry.

But your's will be short-changed. Guarantee it. There is simply no way that kids at home can have the same or as good of an experience. Sorry.

Are you kidding me with that? DP.

Our kids are having a MUCH better experience at home than they have had at school. No more class time lost to knuckleheads who are acting out and needing attention. No more having to sit through the teacher reviewing material yet again because some yoyo was in the bathroom for the 40th time that day and came back needing to find out how to log in to the app they were using. No more having work interrupted because some kid thought it would be funny to fart and then start passing gas continuously. All of those knuckleheads have been completely minimized with DL. Good riddance.

The kids who are left are getting a first class education and staying on track. More power to them.[/

So you are holding everyone else hostage so your snowflake can stay at home? Your snowflake needs to learn to deal with the real world which has many disruptions. Your selfish attitude is hurting so many families. Enroll in a virtual school if this is how you feel and the rest of us will get ourselves vaccinated, follow science and do what is best for most kids. Bye.

This thread is ridiculous. School is not childcare because it is a unique and stand alone institution. It is school. It has been a huge part of the fabric of society for thousands of years. Yes, parents for the large part have expected that their children will attend a school in person, obviously, given that much of what occurs at school is social and emotional learning. Those that think their kids don’t need this are likely in for a rude awakening at some point, like the kids that we home schooled that I knew that arrived at college and went berserk, but that is of no moment. It is not developmentally appropriate for children of many ages, dispositions or needs to do school at home with a computer. The idea that one parent is to for who working for their children’s entire school years should be simply expected is similarly not only entirely unfair to women but also antiquated and at bottom, would result in a return to a private school model for almost all children who could afford it - and many many more affordable options would pop up- and a huge decline of the public schools. Those is MCPS for example would revolt against the school tax.

At bottom, the arguments some teachers have made in these forums re parents looking for “childcare” and it being entirely fine never to return to school reflect a fundamental lack of their job, the function of school in society, how our tax and economic structure work, and absolutely no respect for the children or families they serve.

I agree! If a teacher isn't comfortable teaching in person despite being prioritized for vaccines, then she needs to find a different career.

Yes, but the nasty comments make the entitled parents FEEEL so good when they type them and helps them pretend to have power, and really, that's what's important.

We got schools open this year. We have put a lot of pressure on FCPs to get some kids back 4 days. We got the SB passed requiring 5 days a week, in person, with a real love teacher, not an ADA slacker. We will vote for Governor this fall and schools will be a huge issue. We’ve had a lot of people do a 180 on vouchers and charter schools. We’ve put a lot of pressure on the NoS not to give teachers raises. And down the line, bonds go through us.

So yes, we have some power. Show up in person in August and teach 5 Das a week from your classroom to a full class of kids. Or be fired. No more monitors and ADA. We did that.

CPs has proven they can’t stand p a school based DL system. Brabrand says for legit medical emotions only, scaled down. Teachers and the union say no concurrent. HS will go to FCPS online. MS may be able to. ES will go to Virtal VA or FCPS equivalent. Not AAP, not immersion Mandarin, not with base school staff, and not without a real reason. Sorry / Not Sorry.

Your anxiety and agitation are so much that you are willing to do something blatantly stupid - send your child to school in the midst of a pandemic - rather than flex and be flexible.

The people advocating for DL aren't advocating for DL forever, just for now. When the pandemic subsides, when more people (including kids) are vaccinated, when the need for stringent policies become less necessary, then it will be appropriate to reopen things like schools.

Until then you would be much better off getting the mental health services that YOU NEED so that you can deal with what is happening in our real world. When you become more flexible and adaptable I am sure things will start going better for you. Learn to flex and adapt to the world around you. Learn to adjust to what is happening. When it is safer, more people are vaccinated and the health officials have a better handle on the pandemic, then we're happy to support a RTS.

But you need to get a handle on your mental health first. You aren't helping your kids when you are so agitated.

School has not been around for thousands of years. Formal school was only available to the rich until the early-mid 1900's.

+1, I don't feel safe sending my child back any time soon because many people have given up and live their lives as normal and can bring COVID into the schools and share it to my children and with us. Just because adults are vaccinated, children are not and children make up the bulk of the people in schools. You may be ok with risking it for your child but many of us are not. By reopening your are putting our children at risk. By demanding all kids go back unvaccinated with no lifestyle restrictions, you place our children and our families at risk (expect those eligible or line jumpers).

I agree! If a teacher isn't comfortable teaching in person despite being prioritized for vaccines, then she needs to find a different career.

Then who will teach the children? Places are desperate for teachers, look on the careers page for the counties. They are trying to lure back retired teachers. All these flippant remarks that teachers should just quit or be fired are so ridiculous.

Yes, but the nasty comments make the entitled parents FEEEL so good when they type them and helps them pretend to have power, and really, that's what's important.

Only a small percentage wouldn’t do this if this call is made. I’d put money on it.

We want to be in school with students.

I don't know any school that has the staffing for the hybrid model right now. There is no way there will be the staffing to do 5 days a week in the fall.

And, once again, I will ask you who is going to replace the teachers? Look, I agree that schools should be open, I am in MCPS and am happy to be back. But all these “fire the teachers” and “these teachers all need to quit” is totally tone deaf and, quite frankly, idiotic.

Well, Northam signed SB 1303, so FCPS is now legally required to open 5 days a week with real live teachers in each and every classroom. They must open by law. They must staff with in person teachers. No virtual teachers and monitors. By then, they will have had 1.5 years to figure it out.

But, if upyoumwere counting on that ADA to carry over to next year— don’t. You will be in classroom— possibly without 3 foot spacing. Or you will be unemployed. Because LCPS, APS, ACPS, etc all have to follow the same law.

I heard Virtual VA is hiring. Average pay for a virtual teacher is about $40k. Which is what FCPS teacher should have been paid this year. Maybe you’ll like that option better?

Teachers have been holding us hostage with threats to quit for a full year. And frankly, they are no good to us at home are being paid double what a virtual teacher makes. Maybe they will quit And maybe the replacements won’t be great. But, if it’s going to happen, we are just kicking the can down the road. If they are going to quit when they have to go back, they are going to quit. We can’t go on another full year like this. Because teachers will still be threatening to quit. I’m over the threats. Put up so we have time to plan. Or STFU.

Now that SB1303 has passed almost no one will be eligible next year. They are required to have an in person Latin teacher if teaching Latin classes for every kid who wants in person. And with the good news out about Pfizer results for ages 12-15, all secondary kids who want to be vaccinated should be in the falll. Heck, my Hs junior has one dose and is 3 weeks away from being fully vaccinated.

And fully virtual teachers for kids at home need to be moved to a fully virtual position and paid the FCPS online salary, which is a lot less than a classroom teacher salary.

Feel free to enroll your kids in a virtual school - that is your choice. I do agree this country’s priorities are backwards. We should have done everything to keep school open - not worried about gyms, hair salons and restaurants. Now we all suffer. As for school, once most adults are vaccinated (by fall) they should open because the risks associated with keeping them closed don’t out weigh another year of virtual school (I’m not calling it distance learning because that implies something is being taught which for my lower ES kid is not the case - with 1 hour of live learning per day school is a joke). Read about the virus and transmission among children and the science will lead you to see it is safe to open schools. There will never be zero risk so if you can’t handle that your options are online school or home school.
