You are being racist. This hasn't gone to trial and we don't know the entire story. We do know we have a 5 year old who left school grounds. Its interesting she isn't suing MCPS nor taking any responsibility for her child's behavior. She's playing victim and suing for money. Her child may have been a victim at this school but there is no discussion on what happened that day at school to make this child react like he did.

Just imagine a 5 y.o white boy with two Black cops screaming at him and deciding how his white parents should discipline him. "Showing him how handcuffs work..." First off, funny you should assume anyone here thought by "beating" they meant "strapping him to a wall and taking out a 2x4. Obviously they meant "whupping."

Who TF cares if they said "spanking" all the times they said "beating?" As people with authority-- particularly ones who HOLD GUNS and are feared-- they shouldn't remotely be speaking about ANY punishment, let alone a physical one. To a FIVE year old.

And more than one study and numerous texts have been written about how this mentality persists among Black folks as a way to shore up Black kids' strength to face a harsh, white supremacist world. Some studies suggest it is *less* damaging to Black kids than to white kids-- partly because if something is socially acceptable in a community, it is less likely to be practiced by extremists. But those same studies show it is still damaging.

If you don't think there are progressive Black parenting advocates who rail very very strongly against this mentality, you are wrong.

By the way, I WOULD like to add that it is incumbent on white parents and non-Black parents to check themselves on this issue very generally. What assumptions they make with regard to corporal punishment in Black families, etc. But in no universe is any of this remotely acceptable from COPS regardless of the race of any party.
