Yes I'm curious what the reactions of parents will be. ES parents chose hybrid/DL when the metrics APS proposed were way different than they are now. And even accepting the CDC metrics, things are not looking good.

Ohhhhhh welllllll. Blame the OPEN APS people. They’ve been intolerable screaming that kids don’t get it/it doesn’t spread in schools. School systems listened. Now it’s time to go in. They are entirely the reason your only shot at in person comes with choosing to send your kids in during the post holiday surge.

We need to start an "open when reasonable" group. Somewhere in between "don't open until every single person is vaccinated" and "open now when the pandemic is at its peak."

That was, in fact, most teachers. Nobody listens to us though.

Umm.. isn't that what's been happening all along? Everyone should stock up on Vitamin D and talk to their kids about returning with safety measures. This can be done safely if families and kids cooperate.

No it isn’t. Which is why your kids are going back in January with numbers at their highest.

Many of us selected our options when they were using the old dashboard that was clearly linked to rising or lowering Covid stats among other things like teacher availability and building readiness. Now that dashboard has been scrapped. Conditions are completely different. We should be able to choose again.

You should be able to choose again. Return in January is only fir the APE true believers.

Adding ... The old dashboard metrics would have never let us back with the current conditions.

You won’t. Or, if you do, it’ll be that you can switch to DL which might mean a teacher change and give up any chance of in person when it’s safer because that’s your last switch. And the fact that they pulled the rug from under parents like they, disregarding their own metrics (every district is doing this by the way) should make everyone angry.

I wish this leader had been nominated for sec. of education. It would have been bad for APS but the nation would have gained on the whole. High hopes for the nominee, though.

Anonymous wrote:has APS considered the FCCPS plan? where kids go 4 days a week, either morning or afternoon- and teachers teach core subjects twice, specials are virtual? It is such a better plan than APS has.

It would not work with the bus schedules.

Where did you get that information?

I have heard the same. There was a principals meeting right before break. Although it seems like they had been trying to be careful with the numbers, they were getting all their ducks in a row. Announcement to come in early January that school will resume in January/February from what I hear.

The school board is meeting on 1/7. I assume that the announcement would be then or shortly after. I do think they will probably give a week's notice so maybe we'll squeak by after the two week incubation period from break.

FCCPS is the SMALLEST district in this area. The larger ones cannot mimic what FCCPS does.

Thank an APE parent for this nonsense.

it would if they 1. gave up the 11 students on a bus nonsense- APS is the ONLY school district doing this.
2. didn't offer transportation to the option schools.

Relax. APS is not going to go back at the height of a pandemic. But I’m sure they will announce intentions to start in February I’df certain metrics are met to shut APE up.
