Wow. Wonder how many people will actually send their kids under the circumstances!

Because my kids are seeing friends outdoors with masks and playing sports outdoors with masks. And staying indoors with just our immediate family. They are safer at home. Unless you are letting your kids mix with other kids without masks or letting them jump from buildings, they are safer at home. If you want to argue they are SAFE ENOUGH at school be my guess. We can disagree about that. But safer at school? No.

It means the community is safer with kids in school as a whole. Lots of data that community transmission in areas with school open (w/ proper mitigation) is the same or is less then areas where schools never opened. YOUR kid might be safer at home and the virtual option is there to stay. For others with parents at work, they would be safer in school than hopping between grandparents spreading germs.

And kids arent learning at home except all the SAH parents on here saying how great their kids are doing. The vast majority have mailed it in because their parents dont make 500k and need to actually work for a living.

So funny to watch the UMC white folk fight each other over a weird school system whose stats are mediocre at best.

I have heard the same. There was a principals meeting right before break. Although it seems like they had been trying to be careful with the numbers, they were getting all their ducks in a row. Announcement to come in early January that school will resume in January/February from what I hear.

for everyone? 4 to 5 days a week? Or are they persisting in the silly 2 days a week, where the teachers dances between 2 rooms- and they bring in Pre-K first, then a few weeks later 1-2, then maybe possibly 3-5?

Staggered by grade- still hybrid 2 days in person.

Dates for them all you think or just elementary? Are they purposely forcing people’s hands to decrease hybrid enrollment??
Anonymous
has APS considered the FCCPS plan? where kids go 4 days a week, either morning or afternoon- and teachers teach core subjects twice, specials are virtual? It is such a better plan than APS has.

Yes I'm curious what the reactions of parents will be. ES parents chose hybrid/DL when the metrics APS proposed were way different than they are now. And even accepting the CDC metrics, things are not looking good.

Why even bother at this point?

No it still has to be hybrid so they have enough space for distancing but teachers have been telling you since before the break that all the school systems were going to return in January hell or high water. Now it’s time for the Open APS/FCPS/LCPS people to put their money where their mouth is and decide if “open now” meant January for them in a spike after the holidays. They got what they wanted! Schools are tired of hearing them whine so in we all go no matter how bad community spread is. Should be fun. I’m already betting with colleagues how long it takes the first in my department to have to quarantine due to a close contact at school.

Ohhhhhh welllllll. Blame the OPEN APS people. They’ve been intolerable screaming that kids don’t get it/it doesn’t spread in schools. School systems listened. Now it’s time to go in. They are entirely the reason your only shot at in person comes with choosing to send your kids in during the post holiday surge.
