So what's the plan then? Send some kids from Potomac 15 miles away to change the education culture of the rest of the school? To teach Hispanics how to speak English? To teach black kids how to study? What exactly is the purpose? How do you stop the white kids from doing well and everyone else from doing poorly like in the link. You keep ignoring the link because it's an example of the future of MoCo. The next step will be to blame them because they're white.
Hey, "don't over use those loaded words" PPs - is it ok to call this PP a racist? They think that
-Hispanic kids can't speak English
-black kids don't know how to study
-white kids will get blamed for being white
These are stereotypes and don't apply to all kids but the numbers don't lie.
Why is it that these 2 groups perform poorly? it could be tied to SES but I know plenty of low SES success stories, including myself. What is the common denominator of success across income, race and culture? Parents valuing education. If a parent values education, the child will usually be more motivated to succeed. My parents were immigrants. One had tech school education and one didnt graduate college. But they both knew the importance of education and instilled that in me. We couldnt afford tutors and they didn't have the ability to help me, but I knew they would not be happy if I didn't do well.
Can MCPS change parents perceptions? I dont know but I think it would be worth trying to do that versus continuing to do things that just don't work.
