You're still peddling this lie??? Here's a link to the Paycheck Fairness Act - which Bernie Sanders cites as one of his great achievements for women because he signed on as a co-sponsor along with 42 other Democrats. Notice who's name and picture are listed as the primary sponsor? Here's a hint ... ![]() |
It seems I have to keep repeating my statement that I have never said that Hillary Clinton has done nothing for women. I have said that her feminism is inconsistent and that she has also done a lot to harm women. If you want to look at the websites of the two candidates and compare where they stand on current issues, they are comparable but I trust Sanders to follow through. I believe Clinton will most likely support big business and the wealthy as she always has over the needs of poor and working class people. For that reason, I am unable to view Clinton as a "feminist." |
Guys, I don't think you're going to convince OP of anything, but I am seriously entertained by how creative he (she?) gets in his rebuttals, so carry on. |
OP is supposedly at work today but has a lot of time to post. |
I am not sure what they want to convince me of. The arguments against Sanders are weak and the arguments for Clinton would be fine if we didn't have the rest of her history as a politician to look at. I am not the type of "feminist" who believes that poor and working class women do not matter. That type of woman does exist and some of them will proudly refer to themselves as "feminists." The term is misused in many different ways and always has been. It becomes a question of what you can tolerate in good conscience. You can laugh all you want but this stuff is meaningful to me. |
I'm a pretty fast typist. Not as easy to look up detailed policy... |
Which is why you just keep making it up as you go? |

To turn this around again, just or fun, since many, many women on this thread have shared how they as feminists do in fact care about the poor and working class (and work with them on different issues in their jobs), I'm not sure how you can tolerate Bernie's silence and lack of work for victims of domestic gun violence. You can laugh all you want, but his inaction on this is unacceptable to me as a feminist. |

See that's just it - I did compare the websites. Here's what I found: Bernie's website cites several pieces of legislation involving women, where he voted with all the other Democrats. Nothing to be ashamed of, but also nothing worth bragging about. No indication he ever did anything to promote women beyond just voting with the other Dems (and some Republicans). Hillary's includes an almost identical laundry list of legislation for women. Here's the difference: Hillary Clinton was the original sponsor for the Paycheck Fairness Act. She actually did something for women, not just voting with the crowd. But there are other differences, because Hillary's website continues beyond just the legislation. 1. Hillary worked at the Children’s Defense Fund, where she helped expand access to education for children with disabilities. 2. Hillary helped start Arkansas Advocates for Children and Families. 3. Hillary led the U.S. delegation to the U.N. Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing, where she proclaimed that “women’s rights are human rights.” 4. Hillary made women’s rights a cornerstone of U.S. foreign policy as Secretary of State. 5. Hillary created the now-permanent position of ambassador-at-large for global women’s issues and helped launch the first U.S. strategy on women, peace, and security. 6. Hillary advanced women’s economic empowerment, championed programs to prevent and respond to gender-based violence, and spearheaded public-private partnerships to improve the status of women and girls. So when I line up the candidates' "resumes" on women's issues side-by-side, I see a clear difference. Bernie's record is frankly unimpressive, but at least not offensive. So he's better than Trump. By contrast, Hillary's record for women is long and strong. |
What has Bernie done that matches up to this?
The Hillary Doctrine https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Hillary_Doctrine |
Exactly. OP you must be a man or a woman-hating woman. I've never met a single man in my life who was a true feminist. When push comes to shove, they will all shove women out of the way to try to stay in power.

I find some of these posts strange since I have said repeatedly that Clinton has done some good things for women. I have even posted articles which highlight some of her work. I have also thanked some of the PPs who provided information about Clinton which was positive. None of that changes my central argument which is that her feminism is inconsistent and that some of her work has been severely damaging to poor and working class women.
I understand that Hillary supporters on this thread have decided that I am the enemy because I do criticize Hillary and I do consider Bernie to be a much better feminist. But I am not the enemy. I believe in giving credit where credit is due. I would love to see a woman president and I have repeated that many times. Unfortunately, I worry about the damage Clinton might do to poor and working class women if she becomes president. That said, I will vote for her in the general election. I see no reason for anyone to bring Trump into the discussion. We are all disgusted by him and there is no reason to compare either Sanders or Clinton to Trump or Cruz in a discussion of feminism. That is just pure ugliness but we have seen a lot of ugliness from some of the Clinton supporters on this thread who are offended by any criticism of their candidate. |
Oh wow... I am sorry that you feel that way. I have met many men who are fighting the good fight for women's rights. I believe that men can be great feminists. But no, I am a woman. |
