I think what she means is that Alex chose to be a paid contestant on a show where he behaved like a "little bitch" (his words for some other guy...). The Dad was roped into appearing and did not behave badly towards anyone, therefore he is innocent and shouldn't be subject to such vitriol.

I don't think they are paid unless they are the Bachelor/Bachelorette or "winning" couple. When I watch a television show, I don't first think who is getting paid and who isn't getting paid before I have an opinion about someone. I don't think guilt tripping people for what they write on the internet is any better behavior really.

No one gets paid on Bachelor/Bachelorette other than the lead. No contestant gets any money/reimbursement from the show... not even the "winner." It is a journey for "finding love," not making money. If the couple stays together for at least 2 years, they get to keep the Neil Lane engagement ring. Otherwise, it goes back to Neil Lane.

Now, on Bachelor in Paradise, they do have some sort of contracts regarding payment. Some people get a flat rate no matter how many days they are there. Others earn a daily amount.
