I'm so happy they got called out for having the nerve to appropriate "equity" to hide their racist intentions to keep Wootton exclusive. Also, who boos "The Man in the Arena" quote? Don't they see they're telling on themselves by booing a famous quote about not being some coward who merely critiques but offers no solutions?

They were so disrespectful and immature. January 6th vibes. Total ick.

Only loser: Magruder community, who I truly feel for, but hitched their wagon to the made up Save Wootton excuses that seem to be more about Save Wootton from Gaithersburg elementary schools joining it.

Everyone else: Very slight nudge down for Wootton as a whole.

The best possible option given the circumstances prevailed.

I actually feel bad for Fields Road and Rosemont.
why

Didn't you see how the Wootton parents were acting? Would you want your kids going to school with their kids?

Total bullies. The condescension in the testimonies was....something. No self-awareness of how absurd they look. Magruder families are rightfully complaining that MCPS ends up favoring privileged schools like Wootton and Wootton parents are like "MCPS giving us a new school is DEVASTATING. Our kids might ----- have to take ---- an actual BUS! The horrors!"

It was all passed.

Huge win for WJ.

How is that a win for WJ??? im in this cluster. My 8th grader was accepted into Blair. My younger kid will not have such an opportunity. I was very against this.

Similar situation with us. We're in the WJ cluster and my older kid went to RMIB. Having an IB diploma was a huge advantage in his admission to university in Europe. This is our goal for both kids, as we're dual citizens. Now my daughter won't have the same opportunity to receive an IB education, since Kennedy (now our only option for IB) is both weak and extremely far from our house. Very much against the new regional program!

Your kid will be just fine at WJ.

I am very sorry for 7th graders who will be applying to those *so called* magnets. My younger is in 4th grade. I hope by the time he is in HS, this will be somewhat established.

Honestly, this is true

And Quince Orchard. I know the Wootton parents are worried about MCPS decimating a "high-performing school" but this shift now leaves WJ and QO with likely huge improvements to come in rankings and Wootton with a minimal slide back.

Reduced enrollment equals less teachers. Less teachers equals less course options. Less course options equal lower levels not higher

*fewer

And I don't think you're going to convince me that QO dropping from 115% to 96% enrollment is somehow bad for educational outcomes xD

100%! I get strong MAGA vibes. QAnon too with all of their conspiracy theories. I'm glad they were called out for being so irresponsible to throw around casually words like "fraud."

A bus? What bus? No money for buses.

TFW they buddied up with Moms for Liberty and told the board it was acting like Trump! The joke writes itself.

I DID think it was inappropriate for Montoya to bomb Iran mid-session.

You know that discussion has hit the rock bottom when both sides are calling each other Trump.

I can just hear the "I know you are but what am I?!" tone of this comment. LOL.

In the demographics game, NWHS is the big loser.

How?

Well I’m happy QO finally gets something.

The regional program proposal put QO in region 5 with no more access to Poolesville magnets or any programs with a successful track record. Not sure they are the winners here. Of course now that the board gave Taylor the green light to do whatever he wants with the regional programs, I guess that could change again.

The Poolesville magnet doesn’t bother me because there are other options. Now I’m happy sending my kids to their home cluster.

What other options if you're a QO parent?

There is no regional model.
The vote was just to shut down the DCC and the NEC. Anything next is turned over to Taylor and he can do whatever he wants. The BOE washed their hands of any planning.

If DCC is shut down, what happens next school year 2026-27?
