Virginia Democratic AG Candidate Arrested in 2023 for Driving 116 MPH on I-64

No way. Jones can just say he’s following the lead of our President’s advocacy for “2nd Amendment solutions.”

Yeah um I would like to be better than them.

I remember thinking that if the democrats didn’t pull Joe Biden after his debate performance I would never support them again and I feel the same way about this and the VA Dems. The texts are disqualifying. It sucks for him and the people around him, but it does not meet the standard and the party should have a bench of people who do and are ready to step in. You can make mistakes, but you have to publicly fix them before you run.

Idk, maybe the best thing would be for him to promise to resign, so people can vote the ticket? Whatever is the best and genuinely legal option. Write in candidate. Whatever.

Speeding and bad taste texts? I’d still take him over MAGA.

Reckless driving is not just "speeding." Three miles it took the police to pull him over. 116 miles per hour.
He did "community service" with his own PAC and had his paid employee sign off on it. That is also troubling--a PAC is not "non-profit."

And, the texts in "bad taste?" Really PP?

Committee service hours with his own campaign, pretty bad.
116 not that unusual, though a lot of cars won't let you go that fast. Al Gore's kid was pulled over for around this speed. And what part of I-64 is a 45 MPH?

+1. How is he even still a candidate? How have the state Democratics not completely disowned him?

This will determine whether the Commonwealth has completely lost its mind or not.

46 miles over the speed limit of 70

No. The only other option is the MAGA candidate - NOT a valid option.

This guy isn’t perfect by he will still do what he can to stop Trump from fvking us over.

It will show how much VA wants to protect itself from Trump.

Miyares will let Trump do whatever he wants.

This guy isn’t perfect but he will do what he can to stop Trump.

No he is not. Democrats lose because they are always willing to throw their hands in the air and give up. Not this time. Don’t let the republicans guilt trip you into doing something they would never consider, such as withdrawing from a political race. Double down Jay.

+1

We need to protect ourselves from Trump.

You sure he’s not a republican, but this is stuff republicans have been doing for over a decade.

Right? Wasn’t there a Republican out west who ran someone over and killed them?

Clearly comments taken out of context.

When you are talking about gun control people do wonder - sometimes outloud - what it would take for Republicans to open their eyes to gun violence.

Most of the volunteers out there no longer want to vote for him after this, but we are somewhat stuck by the process.

And this is how we have Trump.

Grow TF up and eject MAGA.

Content aside. Any adult that would memorialize these comments in text messages show incredibly poor judgement and should not be rewarded with elective office.

Aside from the expressed thoughts, the lack of judgement is also a deal breaker.
Add that to going 116 miles an hour and going three miles before stopping for the police.
Then, doing "community service" for your own PAC (and incidentally being signed off by someone on his payroll.)

You would think that anyone running for attorney general would know better than to express himself in writing. But, I guess I'm glad he did. He just revealed himself to Virginia. And, yet, there are still people on this forum who support him. Very, very troubling.

This is an opportunity for Democrats to show they’ve not completely lost their minds. So far, they seem to be doing this opposite.

The ballots have been printed. Many people have voted already. What exactly are they supposed to do?

Suck it up and vote for the guy who isn’t perfect but will protect Virginians from Trump.

And own it if you are ok with MAGA. No one is forcing you. There is a better option.

You said the same thing when we were staring at the Biden v. Trump choice. At some point how are Democrats not learning to put up better candidates instead of berating voters about casting a ballot for their terrible candidate or else MAGA. Do better. This is why the party is so unpopular even in the era of Trump.

So to “teach” Democrats a lesson you’re going to fck us all over.

So irrational.

Grow TF up.

Nope, the Dems f*cked us all over by putting up Jay Jones for AG. I am not voting for Jay Jones because he is completely unfit for the job that he is running for. I am not going to eat a sh!t sandwich to cover for the Dems inability to run a qualified person for AG. And I’m not the only one with this perspective, but keep screaming into the void. *Shrug*

Go nuts. At least admit that you think MAGA is an acceptable outcome.

And Jay Jones is?

Yes. He got a speeding ticket and sent a text. It wasn’t an actual threat, just bad taste.

Get a grip.

It wasn’t a threat he wanted to shoot
Someone and their kids? How far will you go to rationalize that this person is not fit to be AG?

Was he actually threatening to shoot anyone? Hitler? No, it was obviously a hypothetical.

Poor taste but not an actual threat.

Here is some of the texts you think aren't so bad:

Jones then mused about a scenario in which he had two bullets and could choose to fire them at Adolf Hitler, Pol Pot — the brutal Cambodian dictator — or then-House Speaker Todd Gilbert (R).

“Spoiler: put Gilbert in the crew with the two worst people you know and he receives both bullets every time,” Jones wrote, according to the screenshot
.

The text conversation continued after the call ended. In those further texts, Coyner suggested that Jones had also talked about Gilbert’s children dying in the arms of their mother, Jennifer.

“You weren’t trying to understand,” Coyner texted. “You were talking about hopping [sic] jennifer Gilbert’s children would die”

“Yes, I’ve told you this before,” Jones replied. “Only when people feel pain personally do they move on policy.”

If a Republican said this about any Democrat you would be screaming to high heavens. The fact you think this isn't so bad says more about you are your willingness to excuse this.

I am guessing his point was around gun violence. Would it take having their own kids shot to convince Rs to support common sense gun control?

We don’t know exactly what was said or the context.

Speeding and bad taste texts? I’d still take him over MAGA.

The bar is truly so low now thanks to the Republicans that he honestly still has a lot of leeway.

The texts were posted. They were exactly what was said. There’s no context this is acceptable. The fact you are trying to downplay this is just ridiculous.

No we don’t know what was said in the conversation. We don’t have the full context.

This guy drove too fast and wrote some poor taste texts.

I’ll take that any day over someone willing to throw away our rights.
