College and University Discussion
| To each their own. Kids have fun in their own ways. I hope these girls don’t think that their youth and beauty are their only or best traits bc both fade fast and I see too many of these women being cheated on. I wish them the best. |
What does this mean? These girls in the video are prettier than Jennifer Aniston ever was? |
|
I’d slit my wrist if I’m paying $50K + per year for my daughter to go to college if that’s the type of environment she’ll end up being immersed in.
Blame it on my poor immigrant upbringing but College is a huge investment and not one to be taken lightly. I’d be pulling my kid out ASAP. |
| I think there is an awful lot of hate on this thread for girls who are only slightly older than many of our daughters. |
| People are using or ridiculing these videos along political lines. It isn’t that deep. They are girls having fun. Leave it at that. |
Does your # include kids from DC, MD, and VA? And does your # include schools in NC and SC? I find it really interesting that dcum tends to give certain places a pass while essentially blacklisting others…as if NC and SC (and heck let’s face it, VA schools) are somehow different/better than GA, AL, TN, etc. (wasn’t this thread about AZ?). Anecdotally, I know tons of kids from well-educated, liberal families who opted for SEC schools. I admire kids who are confident enough to step outside the liberal bubble and experience something very new and different for college. And the Greek thing is just one option for extroverts and joiners…two qualities that don’t tend to be very common in Dcumlandia. Anyone else think it’s weird that we are supposedly outraged by judging people by their appearance, etc. except when it’s a young girl all dolled up on a sorority rush video? Then apparently it’s game on. Not nice. |
Completely agree. |
| To each their own, completely different college experiences. I was in a sorority, had a blast, still close to my sisters. Having said that, glad mine chose not to. They are at much more academic schools than I went to and I am in awe of what they are accomplishing at such young ages. It is a little weird to me to see so many posts complimenting their looks. You do know the kindest soul with the most to offer the world would not have gotten a bid if she didn't look the part, right? She'd be at the bottom sorority that will let almost anyone in. I don't like this version of our world especially with social media where vapid is coveted more than depth and intelligence. I am not saying some of those girls don't have that, but that is not the focus, and I was in one to know. |
| Sorry you didn’t get a bid |
Good one! That'll show 'em! |
Does anyone else think these posters are moms that weren't in a sorority and living vicariously through their daughters? I was in one, had leadership on Panhellenic Board, so was really into back then. In a million years I cannot fathom saying this as a grown adult lol. |
It's the posters that are saying they are maga and they are Patriots and that America's back because fake blondes are dancing around in cowboy boots. That is what is getting the push back. No one cares about girls having fun. |
If you actually got a bid was it a top house? lol |
This just made it even worse, didn't think possible. You know it's the college equivalent of the man retelling his touchdown story at 40 with a beer gut, right? |
That person posts that on every single Greek-related thread that comes up. I don think their experience led to the rich, satisfying life they’d have us believe. |
