They are only “unvetted” if they do not apply for asylum. Increasing asylum processing was a way to vet them and ensure that we can track them and that they are not criminals. Republicans refuses to find that process. You are being conned by Trump. |
Asylum was denied for this Man. He ignored that. |
But he got a separate court order saying he could stay. And the government admitted it. You can’t have it all ways. Look, I am not saying he has a God-given right to be here. But he does have a right for the judge to decide, and for processes in our constitution and statutes to apply. We all do. That’s what due process is. If the government doesn’t have to follow that for him, they don’t have to follow it for you. And if you are truly ok with the latter, then you either don’t understand it, or are an authoritarian and fascist at heart. Because that’s what fascism is. The government deciding it can break the law if it wants to. The government admitted it wrongly deported him. Yet they insist they can’t fix that, which is untrue. Both are the problem here - that they are acting in ways that drastically increase the likelihood of making mistakes, and that they are unwilling to fix them when ordered to do so. None of us are safe from this. According to their theories, they can deport your citizen grandmother and your citizen infant, and you. And none of us can stop it or do anything about it. You just have to hope it don’t happen. Myself, I’d rather rely on laws than hope. |
Who cares about court orders?
These are not courts. These are politburos. |
Most of the millions let in DID NOT apply for asylum. They were paroled in. |
It is very weird. Honestly there are a lot of middle school debate tactics at play. |
Sounds like you agree that we should start with demanding the return of those who followed all the established legal processes (applied for asylum or had court preventing return to a particular process). Let's agree that these men should be returned RIGHT NOW. Then let's change the conversation to one about DUE PROCESS. |
The judicial branch employs actual judges. So-called “immigration judges” are not real judges; they are merely employees of the DOJ (and DOJ is part of / controlled by the administration; in this case the trump administration). |
Of the ones who actually bother to file a Form I-589 (asylum application), up to half never show up for their hearing before an “immigration judge.” They simply meld into society with no legal status to be here. |
Nonetheless they make determinations that the government is obligated to follow unless they appeal and win. You can’t pick and choose which laws to follow based on whether you like them. And neither can the government. Yet that’s what it’s trying to do. |
Then they can be deported in accordance with law. Everything must be in accordance with law. That’s the part you and the government are trying to skip. |
- not if you cannot find them. |
They acknowledge they made a mistake. They haven't acknowledged that they knew he had protection not to be sent to El Salvador. It is clear this immigration judge made a mistake in his withholding declaration. |
Yet Trump hasn't increased asylum processing, and has not let in millions. They have released into the country nine people. |
No he did not get a court order saying he could stay. He got an order saying he couldn't be deported to El Salvador. He is still an illegal immigrant, and the government can deport him somewhere else. |
