SecDef shares US war Plan in Group chat

Stop with the false equivalence. Hillary didn't plan a war by email. What the Trump team did is far worse. This was information on a commercial platform, that is eminently hackable, that had security information for an operation that put American forces in harm's way. There's a reason that cellphones aren't allowed into the Situation Room.

This is front page of the Military Times. They know incompetent and dangerous when they see it.

Senior national security officials coordinated airstrikes against Houthi targets in Yemen earlier this month using an unsecure group chat which accidentally included the top editor of The Atlantic, a move that appears to have broken a host of federal laws and protocols.

In a story released Monday titled “The Trump Administration Accidentally Texted Me Its War Plans,” Editor-in-Chief Jeffrey Goldberg said he was added to the group on Signal — an open-source, privacy-focused messaging app — earlier this month by someone identifying themself as Michael Waltz, President Donald Trump’s national security adviser.

The conversation — which eventually included messages from Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, among others — included “operational details of forthcoming strikes on Yemen, including information about targets, weapons the U.S. would be deploying, and attack sequencing,” according to Goldberg.

Didn't the Department of Defense announce just a few days ago that they were looking for leakers? Going to run polygraph tests and everything. Well won't they be relieved to save all that time and money! It was just Vance, Hegseth, Walz, Susie Wiles and Stephen Miller.

And this is why you don’t put the village idiot in charge and definitely don’t let him pick the village moron to be in charge of defense. Americans knew we were becoming unsafe as we targeted our allies, but clearly we’re at the stage of just sharing national security secrets and plans with the world.

Why are these fools worry about leakers when they’re the more clear and present danger.

EVERYONE should keep talking this. It’s the height of stupidity to be talking about military plans on a platform not approved by the government. Then to add a reporter and never realize it. Goldberg should have stayed on the chat for another two weeks. Who knows what he may have discovered by then. In any sane administration, the NSA would be packing there office, and the SecDef and DNI would be wondering if they need to submit their recognition.

Trump tweet fired other officials last term for disagreeing with him. These fools should be escorted out on live TV.

"I’m sure if he wasn’t a journalist from a failing magazine it wouldn’t be an issue for the felon at all. 😉"

I subscribe to that failing magazine. Jeff Goldberg will probably get a Pulitzer for his reporting.

I take exception to your characterization of Trump's Cabinet. Trump didn't put the village moron in charge of defense. He put the town drunk in charge of defense.

The fact that Trump is not firing anybody is pretty telling. This particular conversation happened during a weekend that Trump spent at Mar-a-Lago (at the moment the attack began, he was at his golf club). It's not clear who joined him there, but I am willing to bet that the Signal chat was set up so that those officials who joined Trump in Florida could stay in the loop. Remember that picture of Obama and his senior staff in the Situation Room as their operation took down Bin Laden? That is how a normal administration monitors war plans. But Trump is risking national security in his quest to pump every single tax dollar possible into his private resort and golf club.

Trump is a weak leader. He will do nothing about this

Ok, according to this article...

https://www.wired.com/story/trump-officials-signal-chat-candlelight-dinner-mar-a-lago-yemen/

...Trump was joined at Mar-a-Lago by Waltz, Rubio and Stephen Miller. In the Signal chat after Rubio congratulated Hegseth and his team, Waltz replied "the team in MAL did a great job too." Unreal.

I hope this gets Hegseth fired! Please. Please. Please. (DoD employee).

Did you see his response to press pool outside the plane? He’s completely nonsensical

Waltz’s future in doubt following accidental war plan leak
“You can’t have recklessness as the national security adviser,” one official said.

By Dasha Burns, Rachael Bade and Eli Stokols

The stunning revelation that top administration officials accidentally included a reporter in a group chat discussing war plans triggered furious discussion inside the White House that national security adviser Mike Waltz may need to be forced out.

Nothing is decided yet, and White House officials cautioned that President Donald Trump would ultimately make the decision over the next day or two as he watches coverage of the embarrassing episode.

Agree it's a sign of incompetence that he added a journalist. But not one person in the group asked or verified who was in the chat. Once again, this is why we shouldn't let a bunch of amateurs touch anything important. The level of idiocy is stunning.

But that pales in comparison to the fact that they were all using Signal. And obviously have been for who knows how long. Their callous disregard for the rules shows how limited and infantile their way of thinking is. They should all be at the very least fired. I won't be satisfied with just Waltz being fired. All of them need to be held accountable.

The administration did this to intimidate Canada and Europe. There was a basketball team who used to run through their offense instead of the pregame layup line. They did it to intimidate the opponent, showing their offense because the opponent wouldn’t be able to do anything about it. That team ended up winning 85-90% of their games consistently.

That’s all this is. Democrats need to calm down, take a deep breath, and figure out how they’re going to stay out of jail.

Is Usha on the thread? No one believes this gang is smart enough to come up with this super clever plan.

Just for kicks, let me tell you how we all know, without a shred of a doubt, that they weren't expecting this to be seen by others: They would not have behaved like a bunch of 15-year-olds after a soccer match, after a video game, with fist emojis and back slaps. MORTIFYING behavior not meant for public viewing.

The group broke the law and it was clearly not the first time. Not one person said, "wait, let's switch to an authorized form of communication."

Using Signal is unconscionable .

Setting texts to auto-delete is unconscionable.

Inviting a journalist is a big mistake and dumb (but totally believable! and, bell ringing, a mistake that could not happen on the permitted channels of communication).

No one on the text thread asking about the non-participant is shockingly careless and incompetent.

The tone and words and emojis on the thread are callous, infantile, and embarrassing.

There is no way to spin this.

Tulsi needs to calm their bluff. Fill the gallery with Proud Boys armed to the teeth. Enter the room with your most vicious Republican CIA paramilitary soldiers. Then see what the Democrat senators have to say .

Is this a threat?
