All I know is they consistently pick the top 1.5% from each school based on objective metrics. Unfortunately, there are some who are unhappy about this since it's hard to gain the system like it was in the past and no longer favors a few affluent schools. |
The discrimination isn't in the selection process. I think the selection process is fairly random. The discrimination is in the way the admissions process was structured to create racial proportionaity. |
Anybody that was paying attention during the hearings knows that it was all about race. |
This is obviously not true. There is a large element of randomness to it. That is apparent to anyone. Every school sees some poor students get in and some great students not get in. |
The discrimination comes from some students gaining bonus “experience factor” points. Students can receive bonus points for FARMS status, ESL, and having an IEP. That 100% discriminates against students who are at a low SES school, but are not ESL, FARMS, and don’t have an IEP. |

Here is a video of the sort of public comments we had during the hearings. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0rWdIXuYFqA The admissions change was about race. |
Some emotional people made these claims, but they could not show any harm done. There was no evidence to support this theory. In the end, even the far-right SCOTUS wouldn't touch this case due to a lack of credible evidence. 1) The process is race-blind. 2) the largest beneficiaries of the change were low-income Asians 3) Asian enrollment is at a historic high. 4) The school remains majority Asian. |
A random process isn't truly random ‐ a process which does not give students a clear way to assert their merits will allow systemic biases to seep in. A student who isn't well-placed in an academic level appropriate for them may see their enthusiasm and grades degrade as a result. A student who doesn't choose the societally "right" language in an essay might not be scored as highly as their peers would be for the same deminstration of understanding. These might have been the students most suited for an advanced STEM school. |
Yup. No discrimination. |
Who do you think you're fooling It's not invidious racism but they changed the admissions process to alter the racial composition of the school. |
They added seats to give opportunities to kids who don’t attend wealthy feeder schools. There are just as many Asian kids enrolled as before. No discrimination. |
The entire point of the admissions change was to create diversity that 'reflected the diversity in the county' |
You are mistaken. The point of the change was to end the cheating that was done to game admissions by many affluent families. |
Is there data somewhere to back this claim?
2) the largest beneficiaries of the change were low-income Asians |
