I wonder why the Trump administration chose to put such a lightweight as SecDef. It's the biggest, most powerful, most bureaucratic, most lethal organization in the history of humanity. And they put the weekend host of an entertainment show as the head of it? There has to be a secondary intent for having such weak leadership, because the undersecretaries and the generals are going to walk all over him. At this moment in time, if Hedgseth were to walk into the Pentagon in his National Guard uniform he'd be saluting roughly three quarters of the people he'd encounter in the hallways.

Because he just wants loyalists. He needs someone at the top who will help him purge the ones with ethics, professionalism, and loyalty to the constitution. This is how democracy dies, and fascism replaces it.

I don't think so. I think it's the policy positions Hedgseth has articulated which resonated. Eliminating the focus on diversity instead of on capability, for example.

WHO was not a loyalist in the Biden administration?

Many of Biden's top people are career professionals who served in both Republican and Democrat administrations - unlike Trump's.

Did you see Rubio response to a Gaza question. Already these people are over their depth and putting foreign powers before the US interest. Hedgseth is the equivalent of a captain in the regular military. He is so far over his head. What a joke.

Same political party does not mean a yes man. Trump is picking people who will not disagree with him ever. Trump is probably planning to do something stupid with our defense that most non loyalists would disagree to.

I feel I need to correct this -- the Defense Secretary is always a civilian. It's intended to be that way.

I think some of the confusion for people who aren’t familiar is that a retired general IS a civilian.

This appointment proves how Kamala was so right, Trump is not a serious man.

That’s not a good thing. What have the establishment folks done for 30 years? Nothing great

Your optimism is adorably naive. But I hope you’re right. Still awful and destructive but not the worst case scenario. I know Trump would be thrilled to destroy the largest engine of social mobility in the US, I just don’t believe he’ll stop there. He wants absolute power.

Where are all the people who wouldn’t vote for Harris because wwIII?

We are definitely going to war with Iran.

Yep. If for no other reason but they planned to kill him. A malignant narcissist like Trump will never let that go without raging violence.

He’s dumb if he believes they really tried to kill him. This is the same fake intelligence Bush was told. “saddam wants to kill your daddy”.

Trump is smart enough to not trust our intelligence agencies 100%.

It makes him feel special. And he loves that more than anything.

MAGA doesn’t believe these people exist because they don’t know anything about government and government jobs.

At least he won’t send the fbi after people like Biden did to Mayor Adams. Loyalist is more of a Biden admin obsession.

Trump doesn’t care about folks who don’t like him or criticize him. It’s the Dems who are thin skinned

What does Iran have to do with an incel from Pennsylvania who donated to Act Blue?

It’s more likely Trump thinks the democrats or Biden admin tried to kill him because Biden stepped down a week later after the hit failed despite lack of Secret Service protection on the roof and their stand down orders
