APS School Board Chair Drama

I’m only judging those who went hard on others, but who didn’t lift a finger themselves knowing what it would cost them. And yes, I promise to tell Mary about it!!!

I don’t understand how this is a problem. Elected officials work for us, not the other way around.

It's not a problem at all. Just someone trying to stir the pot. I bet that PP doesn't even know Mary!

They are supposed to work for us, but in the end, they seem to really work for APS. If they're going to be petty to Mary, they're sure going to ignore those who reached out to them and destroyed their "plan", whatever it was.

The only thing worth reading related to this thread is Jeff's May 23rd summary, as apparently it was one of the most active threads. I swear I can't walk around Arlington without wondering if I'm seeing any of the crazies who post on DCUM.

Ok so vote them out of office if you don't like what they did.

Pot meet kettle, but sure. You're not crazy for posting on DCUM, but everyone else is.

Anonymous wrote:Like I said way upthread, all that had to happen was for Mary to speak up. Isn't the whole issue dead now with her Friday blog post? The rest of the board can't vote her down now.

Congrats to Mary for her chairperson ship. May APS have a better 2024-25 school year with her true leadership.

No what had to happen was a community outcry. That happened. Then the scheme collapsed.

I honestly think it could have all been avoided without the drama. Mary just needed to assert herself, say something to her colleagues, post her message without even hinting what was going on and then leave the others to potentially embarrass themselves if they tried this stunt.

I talked a few people “in the know” and it was pretty clear that they wanted the community outcry/people writing emails because they themselves still had to work with the rest of the board and didn’t want to face the ire themselves. They wrote zero emails and enjoyed the show.

I don't believe you.

Of course Cristina has supporters. How else do you think a 20 something without kids and with zero involvement in the schools got elected on her first try?

anyone else think it's ironic that the hispanic community was UP IN ARMS when white members tried to block a hispanic woman from being chair?

but now it's fine for a hispanic chair to do the EXACT SAME THING same thing to a white woman?

I suspect it's a different crowd paying attention now. Today's parents really aren't the same parents who were around with Emma V-S.
Also, I don't get the impression that the Hispanic community in general follows SB or SB politics all that much. That seems to be primarily a non-poor liberal white activity.

I don't think that's true because the Hispanic block always puts up a candidate and they always win.

Interesting that now JFAC comes out and agrees with Mary on the Career Center project.

That's ACDC putting up those candidates. The general Hispanic parent population isn't following SB politics. They're focused on their kids in their schools.

I would hazard a guess that the majority of Hispanic parents in Arl Co aren’t eligible to vote so it’s actually white liberals who are voting for them.

And no it’s not mean to say they aren’t eligible to vote. It’s not a secret that Arl Co has long had a Hispanic population that includes individuals here without any legal status.
