NYC mayor declares 'emergency' due to migrants

Maybe a proportion. Of course, border states deal with the bulk of new arrivals and should get a cut of the money for that. If a place declares itself a sanctuary, that means they won’t cooperate with authorities and should therefore get no federal money to deal with migrants lacking the proper paper work.

They already weren't getting paid to do DHS's job for them.

There is never enough federal money for border states. When migrants get injured or sick they go to local hospitals and those hospitals aren’t reimbursed. When migrants enroll their kids into school the state and local communities pay. There is no way the sales tax or unaccounted for social security tax is making up for medical and school bills.

Every migrant child Texas ships to NYC saves the state $ 10,000 a year (what it Texas pays to educate one student) and costs NYC over $20,000 (what NYC pays to educate a child). So Texas economically benefits from busing all the migrant children out of Texas.

So Democrats want open borders and every taxpayer in America has to pony up the cash to support anyone in the world who wants to live here?

If you think that's bad, Republicans want taxpayers in America to pony up TWICE the cash ($20,000 instead of $10,000). And meanwhile nothing in terms of actual Republican legislative proposals that would actually solve anything. Instead they just point fingers.

I understand that. However, calling to give them money at this point, when they still will not cooperate with the feds is ridiculous. There are all kinds of unfunded mandates. Border states are carrying the heaviest load. So it is rich that a state like New York is whining when they are getting the migrant/asylum seekers they want but don’t want to pay to support them.

Texas is causing the cost of dealing with them to double. NYC should sue them for the difference.

The migrants WANT to go to NYC - especially since it is a Right to Shelter city.
And, the Biden administration has sent FAR more than Texas has sent.

Agree. We need these people. There is space in many SFHs for at least one perhaps two or three more people. In a time of climate emergency we need to use what we have to maximize efficiency. Millions more will be coming each year and it’s the responsibility of Americans to take them in when they have unused space.

So you'll be housing how many, exactly?

I love how Democrats are all of a sudden so *concerned* about the huge influxes of illegal immigrants. When it's occurring in their backyard, it's kind of hard to gaslight it all away. Thoughts and prayers!

DP. None of they don’t live in a sanctuary city.

Plus, it is where many if not most immigrants have dreamed of going for well over a century.

Democrats are concerned because of the skyrocketing numbers.

Congress is the only one that can change asylum laws, and they haven’t even tried to do that. Republicans benefit from this, so don’t expect any effort from them.

The mayor is a joke. New York City can’t deal with a few immigrants? That’s ridiculous.

Huh? Both parties benefit just in different ways. Neither wants to solve the problem.

Women and young children wandering all over Times Square area. Toddlers not that closely watched all over the sidewalks. Eating meals in the curb. It’s atrocious.

It is the responsibility of Americans who voted for this. Don't hold those who voted for Trump responsible for this.

Can we do the same check for people getting health insurance despite having preexisting conditions? Surely they don't want to benefit from something like Obamacare
