Those of you wearing these shorter dresses, do you have young kids and if so, do you wear shorts underneath? I find myself gravitating to more maxi/midi dresses because I have a kid under 5 still and I find it easier to avoid wardrobe malfunctions with a bit more length. Even now, with my 4 year old (who at least doesn't need to be picked up all the time and is a bit more independent than a new walker or even a 3yo), she had an issue with her shoe this morning at drop off that required me to sit down on the playground at school to fix. Stuff like that is impossible in a shorter skirt. Or do you guys just have babies or older kids where this isn't an issue? Or am I just fussy about it? I think I'm probably more self conscious about my legs than most people. |
I love the idea of this dress but I’m about your stats - 5’7, 145, 34C/D and I can’t go without a bra. And I don’t think this dress will work with a bra? How do you wear it? |
I like it! I have several Alo items and the quality is very good. In no way comparable to Amazon clothes |
It's a polyester dress for $100. No thank you. |
Yes my kids are older. I am also short and thin and longer dresses don’t look good on me. |
I'm with you. I never loved maxi dresses but with a 3yo and 5.5yo it's the only day-dress style I can really be comfortable in. Picking my younger one up, bending over, sitting on the ground, even just having a sweaty kid body on my lap, all better with more length! Calf length or so is ideal, any longer and I find the kids or I end up stepping on the bottom. |
I have a 4yo and a 1yo and I wear shorter dresses in the summer. I try not to like, squat with my knees apart or anything but if I have to bend over to get something and someone see a little more of my thigh, I'm not that concerned. I do have thin legs relative to the rest of my body so they're probably the feature I'm least self-conscious of. I definitely worry more about a low/loose neckline showing off too much boob when I bend down |
| I'm with pp that this year's dress offerings are not very good. Last year I stocked up on JCrew factory eyelet skirts and dresses, they are 100% cotton, fully lined, have pockets, and just overall easy to wear and super flattering. Sadly, I do not see anything comparable this year. |
NP. Thanks, PP! I just bought a bunch of these. (And I'm an E cup, but I love wrap dresses. Safety pin, anyone?) |

Well, I got that magic Anthro dress - and it's going back. I think I am just too short for it - and it's already so $$ that I don't want to spend more getting it shortened.
Ah well, the hunt continues! |

Just received this and it is great quality cotton for $65. Definitely runs large.

I ordered a handful of cotton and limen dresses from Nordstrom Rack. Just gotta dig through the pages, it there are some good ones for my style which is decidedly not fussy, not tiers, no ruffles…
And was just looking at eShakti — I assumed all their dresses were polyester mixes, but they have a good selection of cotton and linen that can be customized. Anyone have experience to share with their dresses? This is what I’m going off: https://www.eshakti.com/Shop/best%20dresses?fabric=cotton%20poplin,100%%20cotton,cotton%20linen,voile,cotton&sort=Topsellers |

I bought this dress after seeing the link for it on this thread.
https://www.jcrew.com/p/womens/categories/clothing/dresses-and-jumpsuits/relaxed-fit-linen-shirtdress/BJ042?display=all&fit=Classic&color_name=navy&colorProductCode=BJ042 I love it! I’m 5’6”, 180 pounds, and bought a large. It runs big. Felt very “Coastal Grandma”. Lol. |
Skorts are your answer. There are tons of cute skorts that you can wear from the playground to the store to a backyard barbeque. All you need to do is change your shoes. I wear skorts with sleeveless tops all summer long because of their flexibility. You can get super cute ones that won't break the bank from Target and Talbots. |
Agree. I like the Zella skort at Nordstrom (Taylor performance skort) with a plain colored Vuori racerbank tank. |
