Biden strikes out with King Manchin

Treasury Secretary announced today that BBB is expected to reduce deficits in the long run. And Moody’s analysis says BBB will boost the economy and create new jobs: https://www.moodysanalytics.com/-/media/article/2021/macroeconomic-consequences-of-the-infrastructure-investment-and-jobs-act-and-build-back-better-framework.pdf

What will be Manchin’s new excuse for opposing it?

Wait until tonight. If Dems lose, the panic begins.

He is negotiating with republicans about chairmanships. Rumors say he is going to switch parties in December.

Ohhh this is getting good. I wonder what he’d take to NOT switch over? A dead BBB Act maybe?

The Dems would do anything to prevent this - their ability to bring anything to the table or even continue voting in judges is at stake.

The only way Manchin switches is if he’s planning to retire from politics entirely after 2024. It’s an empty threat.

What makes you think he wouldn't run as a Republican and win in West Virginia? He's already the only Democrat who can get re-elected. Or he could just go back to being their Governor again.

If he switches, he will get primaried by a more conservative Republican. When he’s facing primary voters who slew more conservative than average for West Virginia, he will lose.

He received more votes as a Democrat primary challenger than the top three Republican challengers combined. I think he could win either way.

That was over 10 years ago, when he also won the general election by 10 points. In 2018, he only won by 3 points so his popularity there is falling. Since then he voted two to impeach Trump, which really didn’t endear him to WVa Republicans.

Joe Manchin is going to face a very tough race in 2024 either way.

Assuming you're right, 36 months is a long way from now. He doesn't care. Its Senators like Mark Kelly who are under threat and the way the Republicans are making moves, the 2022 midterms are not going to be pretty for those dems ignoring the economy, the inflation, the high gas prices, and the high grocery prices a year before their own elections.

What’s nuts is that Democrats ARE the only party and leaders who are focused on these things. The GOP is just spewing propaganda, rhetoric, and working their base into a frenzy about CRT and transgendered bathrooms. The gap is the Dems need waaaaaay better marketing. They need to start treating politics like the business and media game that it is (thanks to the GOP).

They need to quit preaching and talking down to people with different viewpoints. Ever watch The View and listen to Joy B? Case in point.

Neither of those are CBO. Yellen works for Biden just like sneaky Munchin worked for Trump.

Not to mention Treasury is antsy as f over that debt ceiling negotiation. Government runs out of pennies in 29 days.

How do you explain away the Moody’s report?

Such an idiot. Manchin believed he had 10 Republican votes to move forward with a vote but only got one (Murkowski). Republicans made a total fool of him and now everyone knows Manchin has no influence with them.

Doubtful he believed that. Just wanted to get his vote in to show he's still a Democrat.

The Democrats are playing their own media games and are much better at it because you don't even realize they are doing it.

Maserati manchin — such a boss.

If manchin ran as a third party candidate for potus how do you think he would do?

I can’t hear his name without remembering his corrupt daughter jacked up the price of Epi Pens over 600% to line her own pocket.

Dems don't want him, they only keep him because he's the closest thing they have. Republicans would primary him with someone more conservative. He wouldn't stand a chance as a third party candidate.

The whole family is corrupt.

It made Manchin look weak and he knows it. Now there’s even more pressure on Manchin to support filibuster reform. This bill was supposed to be where he would prove he could negotiate a bipartisan deal that would get enough Republicans to vote to end the filibuster (even if they didn’t ultimately vote for the bill). He spent weeks negotiating compromises to the bill, and still couldn’t get the Republicans on board. It totally gutted his argument that the filibuster could be saved.

Yeah I'm sure he'll get right on that in 2022.

I will amend this slightly. It’s also possible Manchin switches if Democrats have told him they’re done with him - no more committee seats, no more fundraising assistance, no more seat at the table when the real negotiations occur. If they are preparing to completely ice him out, he may see switching parties as his only possible lifeline, tenuous as it may be.

Did you see Sanders deliberately not showing up for a committee vote that Manchin needed today? Its closer than you think.

I can’t stand Sanders and his posturing, but good for him on this one. Manchin totally took for granted that Sanders would have his back even after he made it abundantly clear he will never go anything for Sanders. So Sanders put him in his place.

I bet your tone will change if it escalates and Manchin decides to switch parties. Then its 'How could Manchin abandon us and our judicial appointees at such a crucial time?'

Don't antagonize the man. Don't hold up his committee appointees. Don't put letters to his constituents in West Virginia papers.

You're just asking for trouble.

You assume we trust Manchin to cooperate on judicial nominees. We don’t. He has shown himself to be nothing but a Republican pawn, and I don’t trust him in the slightest not to sell out his party on judicial nominees.

Biden has flipped the 2nd and 10th circuits thanks to his Senate Democrat majority. Trust doesn't matter when it comes to judicial nominees. He is now on track to flip the 3rd in 2022 but only if the Democrats keep the Senate majority.

Now do you understand why holding the circuits, and by extension keeping Manchin happy, is important?

I bet Biden got news of this little clusterf**k yesterday, two days after major electoral losses in VA and NJ, and knowing that he was one Senator away from losing a majority and judicial nominations.
