DA vs ECNL vs everything else

Not looking for validation but shooting down flawed analysis by folks who promote GDA/ECNL as the only way to go. BTW, Pipeline is in institution for boys and girls, with strong teams most age groups across genders. Not too dissimilar to Arlington.

There are clubs like Pipeline around the nation that produce well-trained teams that compete in the top divisions of the most competitive leagues and showcases. Granted, if you are a top player at Pipeline and you can managed the costs and logistics associated with GDA, then go for it. If not, you are not missing much that you can't fox on your own. If you are a star, UNC and the USWNT will find you whether you are at WS or Pipeline or some club in North Dakota.

With DA/ECNL expanding, it will be harder and harder for teams like Pipeline to attract talents and to find enough competitive games to play.

If Pipeline beats Bethesda at u9-13 it does not mean Pipeline beats Bethesda ECNL in the future.

ECNL and DA consolidates talent from all over. They become entirely different teams.

It's a "has-been" way of thinking.

Besthesda does not teach team tactics or passing in the early years. It’s all try to beat the defense 1v1, 1v2, 1v3, etc. There is no passing. It’s all individual skill development. The coaches will yell at players who pass. The thinking is it is easy to teach a technical skilled u13 how to pass.

Its a proving ground.
Its a proving ground.

A good player at Pipeline may not be a good player in DA or ECNL.

That player may appear to be good against league competition until the heat is turned up and everything becomes bigger, faster, stronger, better.

However, a good DA or ECNL player will be a good player in the lower league.

Mostly because everything slows down, time and space are readily available...etc.

College coaches know this. A kid impacting a DA/ECNL game is on the radar. A kid impacting a lower league game may not be on the radar.

So yes, a good player at Pipeline may be a good player in DA/ECNL. However, that player does not have a proven track record of being able to compete at the highest level. The good kid in the DA/ECNL does.

So if you're recruiting a kid and they both appear to be equal...who you picking?

Good for them. All good talent developers know this.

Dribble the ball kid.

That's why kids develop 10 times faster in street ball that is unsupervised by adults.

They get to be a "ball hogs" and take on other kids. try new things...etc. Talent develops naturally like this.

Dribble Dribble Dribble.

ALL GOOD DRIBBLERS HAVE GOOD TOUCH...DING DING DING

Once the one important thing you must have at high level soccer? GOOD TOUCH

Yep would be great but for the toxic environment.

Why do so many Mclean 04 kids always get invited to the National Training Centers. Is team really that stacked?

No. It was because D Drake was there as DOC for ECNL. Just like when A Brunner had his crew all in from Richmond when he ran it prior.

So, it's political?

Surely our scouts are looking to identify the next crop of NT players and not just pad the hometown players resumes...right?

Arlington has DA on the boys side and now on the girls side, just sayin.

What flawed analysis? DA/ECNL provide tremendous leverage in regards to showcase events. By nature of simply being on the DA or ECNL team your player has guaranteed access to that showcase leverage. Pipeline, institution as it may be, can only apply to showcase events outside of that environment. If you just compare the coaching list of Jeff Cup or Disney to that of a GDA or ECNL showcase the contrast is striking. That is factual.

So again, stay at Pipeline, you don't need DA or ECNL. But, there are few, if any, clubs that fit that mold in NoVA. With ECNL's rampant expansion in NoVA a kid with college ambition has very little choice left. GDA= Arlington, Spirit, FCV. ECNL=VDA, Loudoun, BRYC, McLean. That is seven clubs in NOVA alone with some showcase league affiliation. So, in NOVA, in order to avoid clubs in the showcase leagues one is left finding the right team with clubs like: CYA, SYA, VSA, Herndon, Sterling, ODFC, whatever Annandale is anymore, SYC, PWSI, Great Falls, Reston, VYS, Alexandira, Gunston, LMVSC, etc....

Of those clubs, VSA, PWSI, Great Falls/Reston and even VYS all have affiliations with either DA or ECNL so the teams in the older ages have already been picked of their best players in support of the DA or ECNL team. So where is the super club with a super team left for a college bound player to go?

And on your side of the river Pipeline is still affiliated with Spirit MD so it is likely that their top 2-3 players still choose DA over remaining with Pipeline.

It is because USSF is spending so much money on former pros, scouts, etc to identify the top 1% of 1% of 1%. They will get it right.

Well, if the ECNL standings are any indication then our USSNT is doomed.

Selections are always partly political and partly biased due to familiarity with a player. D Drake for example should have excused herself from running the 03/04 USTC group when her daughter was in the mix. But that did not happen. She then took her child to FCV DA along with another player as she was pushed to go DA and not have her kid stay in ECNL. So, yes....there is politics. And not, to a previous poster, the USTC is not going to always get it right. There are always folks who like / hate our USM / USW coaches and player selections. Coaches have biases. Just look at the NCAA and types of teams and play . USC is vastly different than Florida State or UNC.
