Lost 6 in a row and ended the season with 3 straight losses and gave up 5 goals in the 4th. Don't be impressed. The investment isn't a good one.

"At times Prep showed its potential with gritty performances against Taft, Don Bosco, and Good Counsel. "

Moral

Six game losing streak and three straight losses to end the year are all due to the goalie? Does anyone else play for Prep? "Giving up five goals in the 4th" -- were these shots he should have saved? At this level, if guys get their hands free within 15 yards of the goal they're EXPECTED to score, no matter who's playing in the cage.

No kid on prep but I am a goalie parent, this is ridiculous. No idea what your issue with this kid is but he played well when Prep played my son's team and I've heard other people same the same.

There were about 6 other reasons on why GP underwhelmed but since you want to focus on goalie, here goes.

W/L 6-9. GAA - 8.7 GAA in losses - 10.7. Wins against teams with winning record = 2 and that might be 1 if GZ loses. Remember, those win numbers are fluffed with the likes of STA, EHS and SSSAS.
Last year's record with the current benched goalies = 11-5.

It's not an issue with the kid, but with the coach shoving his choice down the team's throat to try and prove he made a good decision. I'm sure the kid is a straight A student with lovely parents and he does a ton of community service, but you better believe if Logan Thompson goes down 0-3 the Caps are switching him out regardless of performance.

Some of this goalie drama may be true, but the brutal Prep offense was arguably their biggest issue.

100% Agree. Prep needs more than a goalie.

I would say that's true for a lot of the WCAC and IAC schools this year. There are a lot of dads puffing out their chests about their kids going to great programs, but from what I've seen, I'm not sure most of these kids will see the field unless they work a lot harder and get a lot better. I'm baffled by some of these supposed 4-5 stars.

Anyone else in the IAC would get overpowered and beat down by a team like SJC. If there lucky to get any shots off, the tender for SJC will surely stop them.

A real matchup I’d be interested in is SJC vs an established team like Spaulding or Calvert Hall. I think, thanks to SJCs aggressiveness and strength, they could take any of these teams in a 5 game series.

Do they teach coherent writing at SJC?

Get back to study hall or get some extra help.

Parent of an SJC kid here -

Leave these kids alone and get back to your 9 to 5. Your top priority should be pleasing your dust collecting joke of a wife You sit on lacrosse forums all day and wonder why she wants to leave you. Wouldn’t be surprised if Garrett Ince is recruiting her to his crib right now.

SJC will be back on top of the WCAC next year under speaks.

At SSSAS over SJC?? Now that's some crazy talk

Is SJC even in the same ballpark as SSSAS?

SSSAS is closer to St Albans than SJC is to SSSAS

SJC and SSSAS are quite similar in terms of academics. Nothing over the top and honors and AP if you want it. Major differences in parent communities and socio economic backgrounds.

No school other than Sidwell is on par with St. Albans academically, although Sidwell has a special track for their athletic recruits.

Thanks SJC righty attack dad! SJC has several talented freshmen who didn’t see the field this year. The crazy thing is that most of them would be first or second line players at Bullis, Landon, STA, etc. - and at least one of them came from one of those schools to not play at SJC. However as someone pointed out, SJC is less than half the cost of those schools. So it’s not as easy obviously as just transferring to one of those for that reason. Parents and kids also love to say they got an athletic scholarship to SJC / even if their child hasn’t played a minute there. And might not for years!

Very fair point about tuition at an IAC compared to a WCAC school. And now that numerous teams are capable of winning WCAC, there is even less reason to sit at the WCAC schools that have been hoarding talent (SJC and GZ) who who watch for 3 and even 4 years. Going to DeMatha or GC doesn’t mean sacrificing a chance to win a championship or pay an extra $30k a year. Not saying SMR and PVI are not a good option as well but remote geographic locations make them less attractive than DM or GC for most of DMV.

I agree with most of this, but don’t think there’s much of a difference between PVI and GC in terms of remoteness to most of DMV population. SMR is entirely out of the way for all but a very few.

GC is starting to recruit a lot out of Hoco now too and taking kids who would be solid at MSJ or ride the bench at other Baltimore privates.

I hope that’s true about Sidwell and STA should get on board if they are not. No kid should grind all day at school then at practice then at home doing hours of homework. They don’t want to and now they realize they don’t have to.

A lot of people did it. Called work ethic.

DS taking a page out of MH handbook, GC girls team is full of HoCo area kids.

If you're kid is unrecruited they will have the exact same outcome as a kid who took the similar course load as them at a public school. The schools that most of the people on this forum are zoned to have any AP/IB credits your "academic" kid would need.

Honestly the homophone misuse alone in your post lets the world know you don’t understand a lot about education. Good Lord.

Why are you talking about SJC? The school isn’t even playing anymore. Nobody cares about them.

It’s true. The good teams win when it matters most. Life.
Anonymous
I’d say the lax at SJC is on par with SSSA now too. SJC is a mess.
Anonymous
No one is leaving SJC. This was certainly a transition year without much leadership from players who rode through COVID and a dominant 2022 team.

Every school has up and down years.

Team is stacked with younger talent, that obviously will need to improve, but there is no fear or chatter on the sidelines of some pending doom.

Will be just fine and will compete like the rest of the WCAC.

Life is hard work. Why start later.

STA had some talent, just no depth. If they can dominate in soccer like they have they might be able to get better in lacrosse.

SJC would crush Prep.

SJC would beat Ryken 9 out 10 times they played. Remember that SJC beat SMR 8-3 during the regular season, at Ryken. SJC grossly underestimated SMR on Tuesday, played sloppy and unfocused, and was confused by a zone defense. Those things would get fixed in a rematch. Ultimately SJC talent would prevail. They underestimated SMR, blew a late lead and panicked because they weren't used to being in that position, and lost in OT. It happens.

All this talk about a "dumpster fire", a "mess", and a bunch of transfers is silly.

SJC had won 9 of their last 10 games heading into Tuesday (with an OT loss to DM as the only blemish). This was a big upset, but not the end of the world. Definitely not a dumpster fire.

SJC haters are clearly enjoying the moment. But SJC will back and better next season. And they were actually pretty darned good this season.

You do realize no one was a STJ hater until all their folks came on here touting they were the next 22 team. Think it’s pretty obvious to all now that their bit and never will be. Humble pie taste great!
