Bosnia and Somalia weren’t nuclear powers.

I do feel terrible for the children. I think we should at least cut Russia off completely. No trade at all. No visas or green cards. Kick Russians out of our graduate programs.

And first of all we need to get them the war planes.

As of March 8 Aeroflat will fly to-from 1 country, Belarus. https://simpleflying.com/aeroflot-international-flights-stopped/
Azur Air is flying around. Notably Cancun but is inbound loaded with Mexicans or Russians or empty?

If Russians other than flight crew that will return are inbound to Mexico? Could be Wagner group for all we know. Any country like Mexico or India that does not support Ukraine, EU, Nato etc needs a wake up call on students, visas, undocumented.

This. Neither the Serbs nor the Somalis have nuclear weapons. Once countries have nuclear weapons, war between them is off the table. There can be sanctions but no military action. When two powers have nuclear weapons, problems must be resolved diplomatically.

Surely Putin knows that any nuclear threat to Europe or the US is also nuclear suicide for him and makes whatever the aim of such a threat to be pointless? Surely his officers know they would be putting themselves, their families and their country at extreme risk of annihilation if they seriously consider putting nukes on the table?

I think you should check with Bosnia and Somalia about how helpful those interventions really were

What part of the US and Europe can't go storming in don't you understand?

Russia already effectively lost the war. Ukraine is destroyed and the people are evacuating (so nobody to rule), and resistance/weaponry will keep flooding in to grind down the Russian army. They've destroyed their own economy and place in the world in order to create a wasteland where their soldiers will keep dying.

Exactly. Even if they take Ukraine (and they very well might), then what? Ukraine's wealth is in infrastructure (trashed and flattened) and agriculture (same) as well as its workforce (fleeing or fighting.) A huge amount of people already fled and more will flee. And it's not like Russia has excess population it needs space for so they can be happy about putting that excess population into Ukraine (in fact, Russia itself has arable land that's not used because they don't have enough people to work it.) A significant amount of people who stay are staying to fight them. The war is costing Putin a fortune at the same time he's tanked his economy and a long-term insurgency which will result if he conquers the place will cost more money that he is not swimming in.

He has wrecked his economy and any hope of most of the world willing to trust him in any sense to conquer a bombed out emptying out place the people of which hate him and will never integrate and will keep on trying to kick him out. He has also united the West in a way nobody has been able to do for as long as I can remember. These are not actions of a rational person in any sense.

I found this video helpful in understanding additional factors that may be driving Putin’s seemingly incomprehensible behaviors.

Thank you for this! Especially the maps (I still want an animation showing Russia/Russian Empire/USSR/post USSR rule over the last 3 centuries)

But then, wouldn't it have been better to be on good terms with NATO and the EU to keep that gas money coming in?

I fully expect to be called an idiot but also think in years to come I will be proven correct. Ukraine isn't just an innocent unknowing pawn. .. I think Z has been playing both sides, unfortunately he didn't calculate that he was being played as well.

Sadly many innocent people have and will suffer because of greedy men

Are the Russian now teeing up a justification for attacks on Poland, Baltics, etc?

Any country offering its air fields to Ukraine for attacks on Russia may be considered as having entered the conflict.

You're way worse than an "idiot".

Here's Zelenskyy risking everything to fight alongside his men, despite receiving offers to evacuate him and despite having no combat experience whatsoever, and some armchair conspiracy theorist on DCUM has the nerve to slander Zelenskyy's name.

You would only think like this if you yourself have been a coward, a manipulator and a greedy person your whole life.

You don’t have a good grasp on the situation. Zelensky is not naive, he knew full well NATO was not going in and the chances of Ukraine going NATO were slim. The rhetoric about Ukraine joining NATO has been a way to assert Ukraine’s independence. The Ukrainians don’t want to be under Russia’s thumb, they don’t want a dictator rule them and the oligarchs ravage them. There are many issues which countries in transition like Ukraine, but through multiple revolutions and now fighting to the death they have made it very clear what they want. Vlad wants to force the issue in this brutal manner.

It is amazing how conservatives work against and abandon any democracy. Just shameful.

The incompetency of the Russian military is scary. I doubt Russia could project forces anywhere. The bear is old, blind and feeble
