Today was DD's last day of school before the break and the aid just gave me a talk on how I should turn the carseat around because "it's time already" and DD is "more than old enough" to FF. DD is 30lbs, 2.5yo and her carseat limit is 50lbs.
I told the aid that while it does take us a few seconds more to strap her in that way she's safer so she'll be RF for a while longer. She rolled her eyes. I felt like getting off the car and finishing the buckling myself but held up my words and just mentioned DD has a condition and her doctor believes she's safer facing back and will stay there until the limit of the carseat permits. I felt like sharing AAP's new guidelines, etc but I know they would fall in deaf ears. I'm so tired of reminding them to remove the coat before putting DD in her seat and now this? Sorry but I just had to vent. |
| I would be pissed. It's absolutely not her business whether you keep your child RF or not. Very rude. |
| I would be pissed. It's not her business. It's crap advice. For me, it would be completely unacceptable for a provider at my daughter's daycare to roll her eyes at me, let alone while getting in my business and giving me bad advice. |
| When you make a choice that is different from what others do, there will always be someone who questions or comments. You just have to learn to ignore them and stick to your guns. I personally would have responded, "You're entitled to your opinion, but in our case, our peditrician disagrees with you," and leave it at that. That type of response usually quiets the comments. |
I don't understand why you just don't do it yourself. I would be super annoyed at the aide anyway. Just get out, take off DD's coat and buckle her in yourself. You don't need to justify or explain anything. If that's a problem for anyone else, oh well. |

Ehhhh...my 5 year old who is 36inches and 30lbs who is still rearfacing...
I don't really care if its popular. You can't fix dead and my son is way safer rearfacing. |
| What kind of car seat do you have, op? The only car seat that rear faces until 50lbs is the new Clek Foonf. Most children will outgrow the RF seat by height first, not weight. |
| Just ignore her. Why would others by pissed over this??? |
Sorry it is 45lbs, my mistake. We have the diono radian rxt. |
| I would have just gotten out of the car and said, thank you, I'll do it. I wouldn't trust her to do it right if that is her attitude. You don't need to justify why! It is far safer to rf. |
Not OP, but many kids don't hit 40 pounds till 3-4. Our child has not and we are at 3 1/2 comfortably RF. The Max-Cosi Pria works great as well as several other seats. |
| I would be annoyed too but she is past the AAP recommendation which is until 2. Not telling you what to do, but it is odd and that's probably why she said something. If you make decisions for your child be prepared to defend them. |
I have a Radian too and my son is also 2.5, 39", and 29lbs rear facing. People definitely comment but no one has rolled their eyes to my face. I'd be really annoyed too, but as long as my kid was able to stay rear facing, I'd let comments like that roll of my back. Sorry though! |
Why don't you write a letter to the director of the school and ask that over the break as they are reviewing safety operating policies, they add in car safety. Why don't you provide a quick checklist to help: 1. Puffy jackets removed 2. Straps clipped at armpits 3. etc. |
| A aid puts your kid in the carseat for you? Why don't you do it yourself and then the "problem" is solved. |
