TTC over 50

I'm looking for other women who tried to get pregnant with donor eggs. My 1st implantation had failed, and I'm approaching the 2nd after 5 month of fixing and treatments. I gained 10 pounds over these 5 month, and having shortness of breath, and really bad mood swing. I need to talk to someone since my husband does not understand what I've been going through and my body going through, even my doctor is not very supportive. I'm hoping to connect with someone who had the similar experiences.

We're doing DE, though I am not over 50. We've been TTC for years and this is definitely one of the hardest things I've had to endure. My DH used to be kind of unsupportive but counseling really helped with that. Now he's an angel. Do you have resources to find a good fertility counselor?

I had twins at age 54 with donor eggs. It worked on the third try. So hang in there, OP!

This might be a silly question- but its genuine curiosity (not judgement about when you "should" or "shouldn't" have kids)- but is the average woman peri-menopausal or menopausal by 54? I ask because my own mother had be relatively young (25, so not exactly outside the "norm" 30 plus years ago) and she is 55- and I see the large stack of More magazines and other mags with articles about coping with menopause and she talks about being how she believes she will be completed in the next year or so and she has gained a little weight (only about 10 pounds) etc

As I understand it, the average age for menopause is 52, with a wide range of course. Perimenopause is technically the 10 years leading up to menopause but most women don't have symptoms this entire time. FWIW, I just turned 50 (not the OP) and am still as regular as I was when I was 18. But definitely some signs that it is coming.

NP here. I am curious to know where you cycled. It was my understanding that most of the clinics around here have a cut off of 50. Has that changed?

For donor eggs, you don't need to have a cycle. In fact, it's easier if you don't, as they don't need to suppress it.

yeah, why shouldn't she try after 50? No good reason why not! It's no different from anyone else who is having trouble conceiving. It's not "natural", right? is that the argument? Well, IVF isn't natural either!!!

54 year old twin mom here. We used Columbia Fertility. Shady Grove wouldn't work with me. We met with SG (after waiting forever for an appt., and they knew my age prior to making the appt.), we met for 2 seconds with a woman doctor who was extremely rude, told me I was too old, and showed us the door. I think I was then 51. SG did not tell me what their age cut-off was. I know someone who just did DE there, she is 49.

I know two moms who got pregnant and gave birth after the age if 50. (Each singles) They are great moms. Good luck to you!

Thanks for letting me know where you went. Sorry you had such an unpleasant experience with SG. They really should have told you up front (on the phone) that it would not be possible there. Rude.

SGF cutoff is 51 1/2....so if you are already 51 and they don't think you can start and finish by then they must say no.
